Nightmare
Feels like this should probably have been a 'clean house' situation for the Bears. Fire Eberflus, trade Fields and start afresh with the #1 pick and a brand new offensive-minded HC to develop him. Getsy had to go, no doubt. Just not convinced keeping Eberflus and letting him hire some more coordinators makes much sense.
MaddHatter
Getsy deserved to go - Eberflus seems like he's hanging on by a thread
Trentwannabe
So does he buy himself 2025 as well because of a rookie QB? Or are they keeping Fields and getting a real OC in there?
D82
They'll be looking at a top pick next year and a new head coach next year....
notthatbluestuff
Eberflus is a defensive-minded guy and the defense seemed to shape up as the season went on. Getting the next OC hire right will be crucial - but Saleh, for example, keeps getting second and third chances for keeping his side of the ball looking solid, so... if Flus keeps the defense improving, then...? I'm just saying, offensive-minded HCs don't seem to get scrutinized as much for losing games due to a bad defense.

It’s because it’s an offensive league. It’s easier to talk yourself into an offensive guy getting the defense to be on an average level than a defensive guy getting the offense to a good level.
AZ_Eaglesfan
The most Bears thing ever would be to have a shot at Caleb for free and to pass on him because they have 4th year Justin Fields on their team lol. He will be gone next year. This is a terrible decision imo.
TankWilliams
Not surprised in the slightest. I'll bet Frank Reich is OC next year considering his connection with Eberflus, unless Reich is taking a year off. minutemancl
I don't think Flus is truly safe; I think he ultimately gets fired in the next few days.

What would be the purpose of firing offensive staff before the HC? Edited January 10 by TankWilliams

There was a recent report that came out the same time as the Schefter tweet that the Bears are monitoring the head coach market. Lots can happen in the next few days and as a result of conversations regarding the OC search (which is so incredibly important). There have been many cases like this in recent years. It's also partly a gut feeling.
Rich7sena
Looks like Fields is safe. We're officially on Washington trade up watch. I wonder if Arthur Smith might be the OC. Edited January 10 by Rich7sena

This move signals they are keeping Fields to me.
General Tso
I wish they kept Getsy.. as a Lions fan. Their defense has improved for sure, and I would attribute that to Flus. If you're going to keep him, you have to kill it with the OC hire. How about a SF or Miami assistant?
