I don’t care that he said it’s not like it’s a big secret. Every DC in the NFL tries to get to the quarterback.  Saying that you have to rattle Mahomes to win is the truth and everybody knows it.

Another plus of hiring ex HCs is player evaluation both in the draft and an FA.
Marvin Lewis in particular was great at evaluating players, the Bengals probably had the most talent  in the NFL kind of like the Ravens or 49s today.

I think this is a little too harsh. I’m not enthused with Getsy either but I like the majority of the rest of the staff. Also nepotism hires happen on almost every staff. From Reid, to Belichick, to Dungy, to forever. All time greats to guys that held the gig for three years. Philbin I’m fine with. More HC experience and has had a history of being a good offensive coach.

Is it though? Of all the capable OC's, they botched their first choice and settled for Getsy. Aside from Matt Canada, you can't find an OC who took more flak for being awful last season than Getsy. Really uninspiring hire is all.

He went 0-7 in the playoffs with that talent which was wild.

Oh I agree on Getsy. I have not been upset about the rest of the staff though. I will be even more annoyed if they go get Fields to pair with Getsy again. I am excited about the defensive staff though.

The Getsy hire was so blah but honestly most OCs are hated. Its the most hated coach maybe in all of sports. A few bad play calls or whatever it may be and it sticks with you forever. There is only a handful of coaches who are 'liked" Ben Johnson, Slowik come to mind. Most of these guys fail multiple times. The only OC hire fans like are guys that never called plays before because it gives you a hope. Its most likely a false hope but its gives you hope, maybe he'll be good. Falcon fans think they got the best guy in world in Zac Robinson. Why? he never called plays, that's why.

I remember when the Raiders hired Bill Musgrave and Vikings fans were having a field day with that hire. Surprise! Derek Carr had his best years under Musgrave and the offense was pretty damn close to elite. Bottom line is go get good players and you'll most likely be good.

Well said. Fans tend to cling to the negative plays when the team is losing games. A lot comes down to the QB and personnel he has to work with. Musgrave was a good example of this.

Getsy was pretty damn bad in Chicago, even his run attack looks mediocre without Fields just going super human bailing on plays. I wasn't a fan of his lack of adjustments to fit Fields skill-set.

I think it's also significantly more disappointing that we had our guy in Kliff then had to settle.

I would have definitely been more excited about Kliff.

This is the biggest takeaway.

Of all options available, we were forced to settle.
