Once the Rams passed on Brandon Staley as DC, looks like every other team followed suit.   Good for all the teams that passed on Staley for far better choices IMO.

I still think Staley would be a good DC but it’s obvious he needs to use this year off to grow and learn. Not just how to remain on top of the defensive game but address other blind spots also.

His pressers definitely showed blind spots everywhere.

I don’t doubt the success he had in 2020.    But adapting when teams adjust to your success and neutralize it is a skill he never showed in LAC.   And the answers he gave at pressers gave away that he couldn’t see the problems.   He definitely needs the time away.   He’s young enough he can definitely turn it around.   But given he’s under contract and paid the worst thing he can do is go back into a DC job and not learn what he has to change.

Everyone fails eventually.   The good to great ones learn from their failures.   The bad ones don’t.   Time will tell where he ends up.

I mean no, but it does make sense as to why we didn't promote him now. He was either gone this year or gone next year, so you might as well promote Orr who might give you a few more years before getting poached.

The curious thing (well, not so curious if you really think about it) is that NONE of our offensive coaches ever get poached despite Lamar about to win his 2nd MVP in the NFL. Kind of speaks for itself that nobody wants his QB coaches or anything like that.

That’s all true. I also think that like Dan Quinn, he’s a better coordinator than HC. As evidenced by Quinn’s subpar defense when he was HC.
