Lamar Jackson MVP

And Lamar was still the betting favorite once December rolled around.

I get it. You spent the entire offseason talking about how Lamar wasn’t good anymore and he’d never get back to his MVP days again. I’m not pulling the quotes, i don’t care enough nor have the time. But you and I both know that’s what you did all offseason. And him winning his 2nd MVP probably made you feel dumb so you feel compelled to incessantly post more about how Lamar can’t win a SB and didn’t actually deserve the MVP etc etc to stifle the cognitive dissonance and rationalize to yourself that you actually do in fact know a lot about this sport. I’m just not super interested in rehashing it out with you. You’ll have to deal with this on your own terms

I just said all of that because you told that touching story about coming out to your dad. It, probably wrongly, made me feel uncomfortable so I just went back to what we always had in common which is arguing football. I don't honestly even remember what I was babbling on about, Lamar this or Lamar that, I was just trying to get through that awkward time and hoped that maybe I helped you through it a little bit too.

I'm also not going through the effort to look it up and re-post it.

Just in case... I just watched Ted so maybe I shouldn't have.

But anyway, Lamar certainly could win a SB. They should have probably beaten the Chiefs and that was on coaching much more than Lamar. If they stuck to doing what they do I'm pretty sure they beat the Chiefs or at least make it a heck of a game. I love mobile QBs, I was one (in pre-school, but whatever). Loved Cunningham, Young, didn't see Tarkenton but enjoyed watching his film. It's a huge asset to have.

This MVP is whatever. McCaffrey had a better year compared to his peers but I get the bias and understand the recency bias whether fair or not. I don't hate Lamar, I do hate the Ravens but that's warranted.

I'm positive when Dan Marino lost the Super Bowl in his second year, everyone said he'll be back and win at least one. And he's an infinity better passer than Jackson.

I said he has plenty of time, not that i guarantee it will happen!

Hall of Fame bound?

If he retired today it'd be an interesting discussion. That said, he's still got 3 more years before he hits that dreaded age 30 for 'backs, so he's got a chance to further build upon his regular season resume, and might have a shot at correcting his playoff reputation. All prior two time MVPs are in the Hall I believe, but they also have rings. Could he do it ringless? Time will tell.

Which sportsbook? I recall there was a split on Hurts and Mahomes entering December with Burrow being completely removed from boards in the middle of November. The day after the Seahawks game (11/30), Dak catapulted into top 2/3. By the end of week 13, Hurts had fallen at most sportsbooks following the loss to the 49ers and Purdy ended up jumping Dak as both became the new top 2 in mvp odds. After the Cowboys beat the Eagles in week 14, Dak became and was at his peak as the favorite. In week 15, Dak had that terrible game in Buffalo while Brock continued to roll in Arizona. Brock jumped back over Dak and was at his peak as favorite. Jackson didn't become the favorite until Christmas day after Brock was picked 4 times. When the Ravens beat the Dolphins, the sportsbooks set Lamar's odds to discourage further betting on him.

edit - Found MGM's betting lines reflects my recollection

I didn't read his article because I don't care much about his reasoning...but honestly, I have no problem with people voting Josh Allen as MVP. He wasn't going to win it, but I really didn't have a problem with the vote

Tom Brady in 2007 didn't even get the unanimous MVP. Lamar Jackson not getting in isn't the travesty that some people are making it out to be. But it's the social media age.

Wonder how the 1987 commentary would have went if Twitter was around then.

McCaffrey, Allen, Stroud, Lamar, Purdy all have valid arguments.

Hill, Lamb, Love, Tua, Goff, Mahomes and heck even Baker could make cases.

Stroud and Mayfield took bottom 3 teams to playoff wins. Everyone has stats that compare and all were on playoff teams.

It's crazier that so many votes went in one direction but you know how most want to fall in line. Kudos to anyone who thinks for themselves, it's not a safe feeling doing that anymore.

No ones going to remember Lamar the way Marino impacted the game. Marino was everyone fav growing up. For running QBs it’ll always be Vick. Vick revolutionized the position. Lamar is good but he isn’t in the same breath. I get what you’re saying but it’s not be implied. All Jimmy did was win baby. Jimmy g has had a phenomenal career and is set for life. Even he made the sb 😂

What do you mean it'll always be Vick? Do you think today's kids know or care who Michael Vick is? Every generation looks up to its own stars.

I don't really understand why Lamar was considered this huge MVP frontrunner in everyone's minds.  In the convo?  Sure.  Frontrunner?  Never understood it given his stats.  Seems like it's only because his team had 13 wins, but didn't he also have the best defense in the league?

Idk, doesn't make sense to me.  Josh Allen had 15 more touchdowns than Lamar Jackson did.
