SteelKing728
After retiring today, do you think Patriots ST ace Matthew Slater has a shot at the HOF? 5 time All-Pro 10 Pro Bowl honors 3 Superbowl Rings The GOAT at Gunner ----- What do you think? BetterCallSaul
I think he should get in. If Hester gets in (and I think he should), Slater has a case too.

nagahide13
He will not. If it were up to players and coaches I think he'd probably be first ballot. As it is now I doubt it.
AngusMcFife
I hope all the boosters Hester for HOF keep up that same energy for Slater. I did not support Hester for HOF but Slater just a good a case as Hester. Belichick calls Slater "the best core special teams player in NFL history"

Maybe the 3 SBs move the needle, but he's a waiter if he gets in tbh. I don't think the Hall will recognize the position until it hits sort of a lull and can squeeze them in or as a whatever they call the old man addition. If he goes like directly into coaching ST and does well there I think he could dramatically improve his chances by being a GOAT ST player but also a contributor as a coach. His dad being a HOF might help him too.
AngusMcFife
Hester is the GOAT punt returner because coaches don't want to waste their best offensive players at PR. Slater is the GOAT gunner because coaches don't want to waste their best defensive players at gunner.

Ok but that doesn't explain why he has 5 All Pros?
minutemancl
Absolutely not. Dude coasted on name recognition for the 2nd half of his career. He was making 1st team all-pros with 6 total tackles in a season. It was a joke, because no one actually watches special teams tape, and no one is honest enough to admit it.

Acgott
Maybe senior committee, but I have a hard time seeing him getting voted in the current circuit.

This, he was a great gunner for half a decade and deserved to make an AP team earlier than he did, but he was COOKED by 2017 and coasted purely on name recognition and BB greasing the skids.

Belichick calls Slater "the best core special teams player in NFL history" Based on the last four years, how much of a good barometer is Belichick knowledge actually? You know?
