SteelKing728
With some question marks on the back end of Detroit's defense, could the Lions go for a big splash signing in Free Agency like Winfield Jr, Johnson or Sneed?
nagahide13
I think Gilmore or Fuller is more likely, but they're 100% going to sign one of the bigger names at CB. Might be one of the older ones though. I don't think this franchise is going to hand out any big FA contracts, they're more likely to use that money re-signing guys like Sewell and Goff.

I don’t understand why Goff needs to be paid 30-40-50. Why not take 25 and build around? There’s a higher chance Goff regresses than takes it to next level. Best case scenario he maintains his level of play. It’s not like there’s 20 teams rushing to sign Goff as well? If I was Brad Holmes I’ll put him on the table and call teams. If no one responds I’ll use that info to negotiate with the agent. I just feel like paying Goff 40 million cripples you in such a bad way. You may not believe he’s the reason behind it but the fact is that offense is cooking and he’s the guy manning the grill. I think 40mil is not crazy for a competent QB when your window is open now. Unless they want to franchise and believe Hooker can bring similar results in a year or two.
nagahide13
I think Goff will sign for about 42 mm aav. I hope that's accurate. If he ends up making 50 per it could be a real problem. I'd be stoked if it was closer to the 30 aav range. He has a year left on his deal and then we could theoretically tag him, but I don't think the FO rolls like that. Brad Holmes loves Goff more than anyone. I don't think we have a lot of options. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2025/all/quarterback// It feels pretty safe to say that Love is getting re-signed. TLaw either plays well and gets re-signed or totally tanks and won't be a better option than Goff. Dak will get a horrendously large contract from someone. Tua will end up making 50 mm per and probably gets re-signed. If Goff gets replaced it'll probably be Hooker and that's a real outside shot. Meh - the cap is going to go up enough to make up the difference. Contractual value vs cap hit don't always (usually the case) line up. They can always stretch things out with a void year as well. Dak Prescott is rumoured to reset the QB market at $60M, so getting Goff for $50M would be getting a discount.

They don’t know what they have in the unproven Hooker and hitting the free agency market will yield a contract just as large as Goffs but for a lesser talent.
