I also didn't hate the Casino world as much as some people. The subplot was not great, but I didn't hate the world. It felt like they were going for an upscale modern Mos Eisley Cantina vibe.

RIP Admiral Ackbar too.

I did like that we saw the wealthy for a change, which is something we've never really seen in the SW Universe. We always see the military and grimy dives, but never the upscale area. We've seen the cantina, Jabba's palace, desert villages, brief urban environments, etc, but never really anything like we saw in the casino.

Going in, I knew about Luke's projection cause I had that spoiled. But I am not sure I wouldn't rather have had him with the green lightsaber in the final fight. He projected himself from years ago at the Academy, looked like what about 5-10 years?

Loved him going out looking at the two suns setting with the Force theme. Goes out the same way we really got introduced to his story.

Kinda wish that ended the movie. Like, why couldn't Rey and co. have escaped as Luke projection was happening, and it ends showing them speed off, then Luke staring at the sun and disappearing. idk. I'm not a filmmaker, but i just feel that was such a powerful moment.

Don't really understand the force connection between kylo and Rey. I know that Snoke said he did it, but they still connected after he died. Was that supposed to be explained by Rey saying Luke disconnected himself? Rey Snoke and Kylo were the only 3 connected to it so they could feel eachother strongly?

The LOGICAL conclusion to Rey and Kylo connecting is that they are brother and sister, because of the Luke and Leia connection (Bespin), which they even repeated in this movie when Luke "plugged back in" to the Force

I thought for sure we were getting another podracer scene when we saw those creatures run the track. It kind of happened and I'm okay with that. That to me was the best part of the Casino thing. I didn't care for it much otherwise.

I think it would have been better if Rey and Ren run off and form their own thing. Maybe not a love story, but become more gray Jedi and end the good vs evil plot in every SW theme.

I would have liked seeing Finn end his life as a hero running into the machine (since gray Jedi didn't happen) or Leia being the one to hyperspeed her way through the ship.

I liked the yoda part. Its too bad we couldn't get old ben with us but Ewan McGregor is just too young for the role. Special moment there.

I think it helped Ren's character by destroying Snoke. He did what Vader couldn't do (without sacrificing himself too). I love Luke's ending.

I have a lot of thoughts to think through for this movie. It could go in a lot of directions. I hope JJ Abrams is up for it. I'm so glad Colin Treverrow won't be directing it. Dude has no idea what he's doing. I can't rate this movie yet after only seeing it once. Wouldn't seem fair.

Overall though, the best I can do is say that I will definitely watch it again.

One downer for me was when Rose saved Finn. I would have been fine if he sacrificed himself there, it would have been a much more powerful moment.

Agreed. It also didn't make any sense and Luke wouldn't have had to meditate himself in to a force ghost if he took down the cannon thing he would have saved the Resistance. "Saving" him was stupid and selfish, it could have been his flying his F-18 into the laser scene from Independence Day. Especially since Finn seems to be just a side character and no real major impact on the overall stroy.

His entire arc and character development was setting him up to be a rebel leader... he is plenty important to the story.

I'm not buying into Rey's parents being nobodies yet, there are too many things that make no sense from the TFA if she is just a rando. I honestly hope she remains a nobody but I don't see it.

And yes, I thought it was cool his projection was his academy self and that he was definitely younger in his projection. And your idea for ending the movie at the sunset, that would have been an ICONIC scene.

He could be. They also pushed Poe into that role. I suppose there's nothing wrong with having multiple people in there.

Well maybe now that basically everyone is dead. He hasn't proven to be adept at any real role and other than being willing to sacrifice himself at the end I don't really see how he's been a leader. I don't hate Finn and love Boyega but I think that would have been a good death scene for him.

Does it not make sense? I had the same "complaint", if you will, about the ending of TFA. I thought it should have ended when Rey/Chewie jumped into lightspeed, but they had to show Luke. Well I think that this is the one they should have ended with Luke. I get they wanted to add the Rey meeting Poe, and the little boy showing hope for the resistance. I feel the little boy could have been added when Finn/Rose left the planet so it actually felt like it was worth it for them to go to the casino scene.

There are obviously reasons for why they did it the way they did, I would love to see an edit with them pushing up the escape and ending with Luke fading away with the Force theme blasting like it was. It makes no sense that Luke wouldn't say "I will stall them" before he walked out, other than to have Poe be the one who figures it out and and Leia handing over leadership to him. Seemed kind of like unbelievable and cheap story telling there

To be fair - isn't it iconic where it is right now?

Wife wants to watch it now. Going again tonight.

Obviously Kylo Ren isn't exactly a reliable source for who Rey's parents are, especially given that he was trying to sway her, but the fact that this movie kinda beats us over the head with the "anybody can be a jedi!!" thing (see: final scene) heavily implies that Rey's parents really are nobodies.
