Predict the final 53

With training camp coming up soon, it's a good time to take a guess at what the final roster will look like. All kinds of rumors will be going around once they hit the practice field and I'm sure there will be a few players that capture the hearts of Lions fans. With that said, it should be pretty fun to predict the final 53 now and look back at these later when the roster is actually set.

Would love to see Tion Green and Pat O'Connor make the team. Totally forgot about Keshawn Martin, he could make the team as ST guy for sure, maybe even as a returner

Green and O'Connor are pure guesses.  I just am not excited about what else is left at their positions so figured we should give some youth the chance.  I wouldn't doubt that they both get cut and added to the PS though.

I definitely think Keshawn Martin can win the returner battle.  I think he is a better returner than Roberts but probably will not be much help as a WR.  If one of the younger WRs proves to have the return ability along with potential to make an impact on our pass game, they will beat him out but as of now I think he is the favorite.

I agree with this mostly. However, Copeland went to the locker room with an injured shoulder during the preseason game. Depending on severity, I could see him either on IR or cut.

I don't know if Alex Carter is practice squad eligible. That is why I put him on the roster. The team has said this season is make or break for him, so I don't see them cutting him right away. But I don't know if he's used up his 3 PS stints yet.

I also don't see the Lions trying to stash Kaaya on the practice squad. We saw what happened last season when we tried that with Rudock. Chicago tried to sign him and we had to add him to the 53. I see it playing out again this year with injuries piling up for alot of teams already.

Didn't the Bears try to get Rudock halfway through the season? I'm pretty sure he started the season there.

This is correct.

Either way, if Kaaya continues to look somewhat competent in the preseason, I think that he will make the roster. If he gets stashed on the practice squad he would be a prime suspect for someone to try and sign away if they had a QB injury.

As far as WR goes I would rather keep Billingsly over Martin,  I was not impressed at the effort Martin gave in his blocking.  I think that if the Lions were to try to sneak Billingsly onto the PS that he would end up being claimed very quickly.  He offers very reliable hands, great RAC, and back up slot potential.  Not to mention he can also serve as a PR/KR.  I like him more than Martin hands down.  Abbrederis is a keeper in my mind because of his sure hands, size and precise route running.  Asiata I hope finds employment elsewhere for another team because I don't feel he brings anything better than Washington and he lacks speed.
