SteelKing728
I'm interested to see how Flores will utilize Turner, Greenard and Van Ginkel together in pass rushing situations. We saw some of it with Hunter, Wonnum and Davenport last year, but then Davenport hardly played at all last season.
SteelKing728
Would it be best if Turner comes in just as a pass rush specialist before he's ready to start full time?

vike daddy
Dallas Turner, on the value of OTA's: "Being around guys like Jonathan Greenard, Pat Jones and Van Ginkel. They taught me a lot, just watching them and how they approach things day-to-day, kind of gave me my own way on how to approach things, too. But you know, just being around a great group of vets like that plays a big contribution in what I have going on." "The workload from Alabama to the NFL in general is definitely a transition, but it's a good transition with the workload and how intense things are. I feel like it's more of a technical thing at the NFL level, really understanding what you're doing. But I got a lot of great work at Alabama, too — it got me here." "At the end of the day, you've still gotta work, and we haven't even put pads on yet. So you know, I can't really say I did anything yet. I'm just staying humble. I haven't even played a game yet. So there's still a lot more work to do, a lot more proving to do. But I'm definitely excited for what the future holds and for what me and my guys are going to do this season." Turner, a Florida native, was in high school as he watched Greenard's 2019 season with the Florida Gators in which he recorded 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. Turner considered attending Florida before opting for Alabama: "Just being around each other every day, we hold each other accountable, he pushes me every day. He kind of took that role of taking me under his wing and just showing me the ropes and stuff like that. I'm very grateful and appreciative of having him in my room." https://www.vikings.com/news/dallas-turner-transition-learning-from-veterans-expand-game Edited June 18 by vike daddy
vike daddy
Selected by Minnesota with its second first-round pick in this year's draft, Dallas Turner and Jared Verse of the Los Angeles Rams were the two edge rushers included in NFL.com's Chad Reuter's predictions for the 2024 All-Rookie Team. "I suspect Turner will be a defensive force for the Vikings by the midway point of his rookie campaign, possibly starting the year as a designated pass rusher (and ultimately approaching a double-digit sack total) but eventually proving he’s able to drop into zones and fight tackles playing the run." https://thevikingage.com/posts/2024-rookie-predictions-infuriate-minnesota-vikings-draft-pick?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR04sY22Nm873fzCCCvFNNu6oSvND3mdiay-zMNPKMPQmtrVz5l31W5pGA4_aem_9WI5i8X9yiIBRoerHIx_-Q
viking
With AVG going into training camp on the PUP I doubt Turner ever gives back the starting EDGE role

He's more likely to replace Wonnum, and play his role than Hunters' this season I would think.

He's only a 1 year rental though and seems to do his best work in clear passing situations. Either way we'll probably see a lot of rotation for our edge rushers. I think he was brought in to be a start bro.
VikeManDan
The way I envisioned it, right or wrong, is... Hunter out, Greenard in. Davenport/Wonnum out, AVG/Turner in. With health, all 3 will see significant snaps with Flores in charge. It feels soooo wrong for me to say but I think our EDGE group got better. I was/am a huge Hunter fan.

For our Scheme we definitely got better at edge. Greenard statitcally was only slightly worse than Hunter - Who's to say he can't surpass him in 2024 with Hunter approaching the wrong side of 30? AVG and Turner blow Davenport and Wonnum out of the water in ability and versatility.

Greenard is ascending as well as you mentioned. I'm excited for the new era at the EDGE spot and wish Hunter nothing but the best with the Texans. Some intriguing UDFAs and younger players after those big 3 as well for us.
