Dallas Turner DROY huge impact in Flores system. McCarthy doesn't start until week 8 or whatever week is after the bye 7-8

Vikes go 8-9 with a painful 5 game losing streak in the middle of season followed by a 3 game win streak.

I think the Vikings go 10-7...as long as they stay healthy...and will be in contention for a wild card slot.  Aaron Jones will push Justin Jefferson in being seen as team MVP.  The defense will be top 10!

I am always optimistic this time of year.

Justin Jefferson goes for 105/1450/12

Jordan Addison goes for 82/1075/9

TJ Hockenson goes for 90/1000/10

Aaron Jones goes for 1100 yards and 8 TDs rushing and adds 400 yards and 3 TDs receiving

Dallas Turner leads all rookies in sacks and pass rush win rate while proving to be capable in coverage

Kene Nwangwu has 3 return TDs

Vikings go 10-7, secure a Wild Card, and run through the playoffs with Sam f'n Darnold. Darnold gets injured after John Randle gets a little too excited celebrating in the locker room after they win the NFC Championship Game. JJ McCarthy's first start is the Super Bowl. He outduels Patrick Mahomes in a masterful performance, throwing for 4 TD's, including the game winner to Justin Jefferson as time expires. Vikings 38 - Chiefs 35.

Ditka 99...Vikings 1. It would be 100 to nothing but Ditka gracefully gives 1 point to the Vikings.

Ditka couldn't even handle a Metrodome crowd...there's no way he'd get 99.

There’s a new theory about McCarthy’s go-live date, as The Purple Persuasion tweeted last weekend, “Per Ben Goessling and Michael Rand via Access Vikings, given how the schedule is laid out, they both believe Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy will likely start week 12 with the 3-game homestand against the Cardinals, Falcons, and Bears. They both also fully expect a McCarthy vs. Kirk Cousins matchup in Week 13.”

The Star Tribune hypothesis would grant McCarthy six starts to close out the 2024 season, while, of course, Minnesota’s would-be record at the time remains a complete unknown. If the club had a winning record with Sam Darnold, signed by Minnesota in March as a patchover quarterback for McCarthy, Darnold would likely stay in place.

An upside-down record, however, could pave the way for McCarthy, possibly aligning with the Goessling and Rand timeline.

I just ran the simulator on PFN.  The NFC North standings are:

Green Bay 12-5

Detroit 10-7

Chicago 9-8

Minnesota 6-11

The best regular season record goes to Atlanta, finishing 14-3.  Other division winners are SF, Dallas, Baltimore (13-4), Buffalo, Houston (12-5) and Kansas City (9-8) with San Francisco beating Baltimore in the Super Bowl.

Via bold prediction, here are five projections ranked in no particular order.

Cam Akers Re-Signed
For a second consecutive season, Akers will be low-risk per cost and high reward per upside. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah enjoys his affordable deals, and adding Akers makes a lot of sense for a team currently deficient at RB3. Akers may not make a humongous thumbprint on the 2024 season, but Minnesota will give him another look.

Vikings Reveal All-White Uniforms — with White Helmets
Minnesota will hop on the train for uniform diversification and variety, and with that endeavor, the threads will feature all white, plus a fancy white helmet. We predict the look will mimic the Cincinnati Bengals’ beloved white uniforms.

Kwesi Fires off a Trade for a WR like Treylon Burks
The Vikings don’t have much draft capital available to swing fancy trades during the remainder of the offseason, but if Bleacher Report’s theory from earlier this month is anywhere close to grounded in reality, the purple team should pounce.

BR’s Alex Kay sized up five theoretical trades around the NFL a couple of weeks ago, and the Vikings were included, spitballed as a landing spot for Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks — for the price of a 7th-Round pick. Something like that will come to fruition, as Adofo-Mensah adores sending late-round draft picks elsewhere for players with high upside. It will be a wide receiver or defensive tackle.

Patrick Jones II Waived
These are Minnesota’s outside linebackers on the current roster:

  • OLB1: Jonathan Greenard
  • OLB2: Dallas Turner
  • OLB3: Andrew Van Ginkel
  • OLB4: Patrick Jones II
  • OLB5: Jihad Ward
  • OLB6: Andre Carter II
  • OLB7: Gabriel Murphy
  • OLB8: Owen Porter
  • OLB9: Bo Richter

The franchise will keep a maximum of six from the list, and Murphy won’t be cut. Realistically, the 2024 depth chart will have five EDGE rushers. We predict Jones II, a man not drafted by this regime, will hit free agency.

Sam Darnold as the Starter Is a Total No-Brainer
For now, Vikings fans are debating which quarterback will win the QB1 job — and that’s totally fine, given the excitement of the highest draft passer in franchise history. However, when July and August arrive, folks will begin to learn that Darnold is for sure the QB1 to start the season.

Minnesota has no urgency or interest in rushing McCarthy, so he can watch and learn as long as needed. McCarthy will play well this summer at training camp and in the preseason, but Darnold wins the QB1 job with ease.
