I met my girlfriend through friends I met because of John. Rough weekend for me.

My condolences. Never met John in person, but I read his stuff all the time. I hadn't even realized the cancer was that bad. For some reason I thought I even saw he was in remission. RIP

Wilson/Avila for Candy/Isaac Paredes/cash.

Eff this deal. Ademan and Paredes were my 2 favorite prospects left. Paredes has put up ridiculous numbers for an 18 year old in full season ball since the calendar switched to May.

It had been. He found out it came back last month.

I’m just glad John got to see the Cubs win it all.

He brought a lot of Cubs fans together, and was always super supportive of everyone, no matter what he was going through. Not only was he a good writer, by all accounts he was a genuinely good man.

Surprised this didn't get some attention. Nice move by Cubs organization.

I'm not so sure how I feel about this.  Iirc the Cubs have reached out to him time and time again.  I think they even offered to have him throw out the first pitch in one of the first games at wrigley after winning the World Series.  Every time he rejected them.  He doesn't deserve a ring imo.

He didn’t deserve having his life ruined either. The guy rejected all those public appearances because he lives like a hermit now. He just wants to be left alone and not put in the public eye.

It’s a nice gesture and a good way for the team to close that ugly piece of history without dragging him into public to do it.

Been on vacation, but was able to listen to the game last night.  That was fun.  If they can just go ahead and win every game by 12 runs going forward, that'd be great.

And last night was NOT fun, although Jake looked terrific.  If he returns to anywhere close to his 2015/early 2016 form, that would be huge.  Play for the payday, Jake!
