Sad day. I know he was upset about playing time and that the Steelers are trying to move on with other OLBs like Dupree and Watt, but I really felt he had a spot on the squad.

James Harrison has been dealing with a lingering back issue for some time, and it's common for players to believe they have more in the tank than what the tape says. Football can be a cruel sport in this way, back in the day, the Steelers released Franco Harris. Harris was signed by Seattle, but it was obvious he was finished as a RB.

just read he's franchise leader with 80.5 sacks, is that correct? Seems low for a team like Pittsburgh

Indeed it is correct. However, since sacks only became an official stat in 1982 members of the Steel Curtain like Mean Joe Green and LC Greenwood's were not counted.

Most famous PIttsburgh OLBs spent years on other teams: James Harrison, Joey Porter, Kevin Greene, Jason Gildon, And Greg Lloyd all spent time on other squads, whether it be a year or several.

Odd move. Yeah, his impact hasn't been great and his snap count has dwindled, but Harrison is absolutely the kind of guy that turns it on for the postseason. I don't think they beat us in the postseason without him last year. Feels like they're cutting him just before he would've gotten useful.

Plus the Steelers have almost always been good about getting other pass-rushers, so maybe that cut into the totals of these guys as well. Not that 80.5 is low, just that you think it'd be higher for a franchise like Pittsburgh.

FWIW, Cowboys record is at least 115, IIRC.

That player loyalty. Remember a couple weeks ago where every sportscaster in America was publicly weeping on every forum possible about Eli being benched. They'll all say this is a necessary move and football is just business.
