diamondbull424
So I would post stats but that’s no fun, just wanted to know off memory who everyone thinks is/was better. If you had to choose one to hit a game winner, who are you taking? Which player do you think is better?
RavensDefense3
it has to be justin, matt just didn't have the range that justin does
drd23
I only became a fan of the NFL and the Ravens in Stover's last season in Baltimore, so I didn't see much of what made him great, but surely it's Tucker. He's got the second highest "kicks made" percentage ever, massive range and his 2016 season was the greatest season ever by a kicker.
DontTazeMeBro
Tucker>everyone. EVER GOAT

What does that mean? He's got the #1 FG percentage all time, even with no qualifications for all the long FGs we let him try. Kicking is one thing you can't say you need to adjust for era, rules (it's only gotten harder for extra points, and Tucker's never missed one in regular or post season), or whatever. The task hasn't changed. Tucker is the best ever.
DreamKid
Remember when it was Matt for short yardage and Steve for long. Yea, I didn't even know this was a debate Tucker all the way. Baltimore's GOAT farm isn't lonely.
coordinator0
Tucker. Doesn't mean Stover wasn't great, but not as good. I feel kickers as a whole have evolved though. At least from an athletic/strength standpoint. They're making 50 yarders like it's nothing these days. Wasn't quite the case (at least as I remember it) in Stover's era just a somewhat short time ago.

Glad to say we had some of the best to ever do it. AutoMattic Stover was the man.

Dan Bailey was marginally ahead (by like less than 0.5%) of him last time I checked, but Bailey did miss one today, so maybe that's changed it? diamondbull424
That’s the reason I didn’t include stats. It would’ve ruined the argument real quick. I was just looking up a bunch of old school teams and reading college football articles and it brought me back to the feeling that after Stover left and we had to deal with Steven Hauschka and Billy Cundiff. And there was the thought that Matt Stover, Mr. Automatic might never be replaced. It’s crazy to think that somehow we actually found a kicker that’s actually better. In a way I was kind of wondering how that leaves Stovers legacy. Because statistically, he probably looks just like any other kicker now. But there was a time when Baltimore fans were so confident that you would go to the bathroom during field goals because... you knew it was already automatic. paraven
tucker for sure but stover isnt to far behind. He was money from anything inside 50. Tucker has him on yardage but thats a new trend for kickers, kicking these 50+ yarders an a regular basis
berlin calling
2 all time greats yet Cundiffs shank will forever hang with this team. Sigh.
alfalcone
It turns out Stover had three pretty bad years to start his career in Baltimore. 9I was 6-8 at the time so I had no recollection of this.) https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/stovemat01.htm
