5 up, 5 down

Not waiting for @LETSGOBROWNIES' lazy ***.

Up:

1. Watson. Yeah, I said it. 4MYbBo.gif

Still want to be rid of him, but dude 100% played well enough to win today.

2. JOK. Defense as a whole woke up in the fourth (too late at that point), but JOK is the only one who came to play all day. Reminds me of the Denver game last season... defense laid an egg, but JOK still brought it.

3. 4th quarter defense. They finally woke up. But much like last week, it was too late.

4. Eh... Whiteheart the tight end?

5. I guess Garrett still making an impact despite clearly not being 100%.

Bad:

1. Defense for the first three quarters. Coaching and execution. The defense after the INT was some of the most pathetic tackling I've ever seen. We played way too soft against okayish receivers when we have a great trio of CBs.

2. Nick Harris. Overall his blocking was fine, and the holding was ticky-tack at best, but that bad snap at the end of the game sealed the game.

3. Jones. What a fall off. Went from looking like a future pro bowler to looking like a bum.

4. Cooper. Horrible drop that turned into an INT. Motion penalty that negated a good play. He almost redeemed himself with the long TD, but it didn't count.

5. Hopkins. Can't miss the XP. We could have taken the game into OT while having most of the momentum.

he did. Solidly a game manager, underwhelming all things considered, but absolutely was good enough to win.

he does every game. He’s our most consistent defender and not far away from Myles as our best in general imo.

Yeah, too little, too late.

just like we all predicted

Yeah, and unfortunately this look like what we should probably expect.  Dude hasn’t been injury free for a long time it seems, there’s always something.  Glad he plays through it.

Okayish is generous.  Also, it’s hard to win when you allow a team to put up 150 and 2 scores on the ground.

yeah, but it’s hard to blame your 3rd string center too much.

he looks awful.  Not just physically by looking 50 pounds overweight, but he seems to have no idea what he’s supposed to do out there.

he’s borderline unplayable at times.  AB looks justified as hell in trying to move him this summer, I’ll say that much.

It’s a tough job when you’re criticized for pretty much any time you’re not perfect, but yeah, you gotta make those.

Cedric Tillman had a better blocking grade than our offensive line

I don’t want to make excuses, but both starting tackles are injured.

Teller is out. Wypler is done for the year.

Pocic and Dewand are playing through injuries.

Bitonio and Hudson were also on the injury report.

I have no idea how that unit is as injured as they are, but it’s not sustainable or reasonable to expect great results from that group right now.

I think Stefanski did a decent job at calling plays that allowed for Watson to get rid of the ball quickly with the OL struggling and hurt. But pressure was still getting there when we were looking for more explosive plays, which obviously take more time to develop.

But yeah, ultimately we're gonna struggle with protection and run blocking until we get some guys back.

The catch 22 is you have to hit on/try to hit on those big plays at times or teams start stacking the box.

There aren’t a lot of great options to work around this OL as currently constructed.

How about run the ball more?????  If you know your Oline is hurting, and trash in protection right now, why isn't he making a bigger effort trying to keep the ball on the ground?  I read somewhere that our ypc isn't exactly awful right now, yet Ford and Foreman have gotten so few carries.  I get that we've gotten behind the sticks in penalties, and down and distance matter....but Stefanski HAS to do a better job with getting these guys more carries!

I think playing from behind much of the season paired with being behind the sticks ALL THE DAMNED TIME (seemingly) are the biggest issues.

Cant run it on 2nd and 15, 3rd and long, etc.

Also, the ypc are skewed a bit by a couple longer runs. Yesterday Ford had 10 carries for 58 yards.  “Almost 6 a carry!!”  Yes…. But 35 came on one run. That means the other 9 carries netted 23 yards. Hard to keep handing the ball to someone who’s getting 2 per pop just hoping they can break one eventually.  It’s much easier to run if you’re getting 4-5 each and every run but never breaking a long one.

I would counter by saying 3rd and 6 is still better than 3rd and 10...or 2 and 20 because of a sack
