Your logic just doesn't track here. The offenses were good when he arrived. They were bad when he left. That isn't the team putting him in a bad situation, that's him making a mess of the situation he was given. That teams weren't able to immediately recover, or that they didn't hire someone good after him, does not mean he was not at fault for the decline he oversaw.

Regardless, this is, at best, you just making excuses for him. There's no argument for him being good. The best you can do is say, maybe it wasn't his fault and he's not actually total crap. The nature of argument kind of proves the quality of the guy, to be honest.

I am in no way saying he is good. Just seems like people are throwing all this trash on him saying he was the sole reason for why these offenses were bad. When reality and factually these teams had bad offenses after him, so maybe the teams talent just regressed? I know looking at the Titans they significantly regressed in talent in 2022, I think anyone would have seen a regression in offense especially with a regressing Tannehill. So were the coaches after him just as bad or was the team just falling apart?

The argument being made is Hackett>>>Downing, so I am just trying to figure out why that is?    Obviously, its pretty illogical to think the Jets can just hire another OC at this point in a season. They pretty much have to make a change within the building. The argument is LOL the Jets downgraded at OC, which after seeing how bad Hackett has been I am finding that hard to believe.

Isn't this one of the changes Saleh wanted to make in the first place?

So they fired him for suggesting it and then did it anyway. Nothing about this organization makes a lick of sense.

IIRC he wanted to fire Hackett, not just demote him.

And the Jets about to go on a run

Wouldn't surprise me, a lot of teams respond well when their coach is fired midseason. For all of the doom and gloom surrounding the Jets right now, a win on MNF puts them in first in the division.

It happened to the Raiders last year.  Wouldn't surprise me at all if they improve, and suddenly the Jets brass delude themselves into thinking Downing isn't terrible.
