Sean Payton made his return to the Superdome as the coach of the opposing team tonight. It wasn’t supposed to be that way,

After Payton resigned from the Saints, there was a little-known (at the time) plan in place. Payton would become the coach of the Dolphins. And Tom Brady, who retired (for the first time) from the Buccaneers, would first become an executive with the Dolphins before eventually unretiring to become the quarterback.

The plan went sideways, due in part to the lawsuit filed by former Dolphins coach Brian Flores. (Miami hired Mike McDaniels as the team’s new head coach five days later.) And even though it was hardly a top secret in media circles, few breathed a word of the plan until the sheets hit the fan in August, with the Dolphins punished severely for tampering with Payton and Brady, as part of the effort to bring them both to Miami.

So, no, Payton wasn’t supposed to be coaching the Broncos in New Orleans tonight. He was supposed to be coaching the Dolphins as of 2022.

It tells you the character of the men involved.  While certainly the Dolphins owner was the instigator and biggest offender, (I know some will disagree with this take), I think it's also reflective of Payton and Brady's character.  They knew what was going on...they knew it was unethical...and they didn't care. I personally wouldn't want either one in my organization, regardless of how good they were at what they were doing.  There's a different price (beyond money) involved to do so.  People may call me naive or idealistic, but I think character still matters...and even moreso than just skills.

Aaron Rodgers is the problem on the Jets.

The Jets traded for Rodgers expecting to get what Tampa Bay and Denver got with Brady and Manning. A future Hall of Fame, veteran QB who was not only going to elevate the play on the field, but create a new and winning culture in the locker room. Unfortunately for the Jets and their fans, while Rodgers, like Brady and Manning, seems to demand a lot from the players around him, unlike Brady and Manning he doesn’t seem to put those same demands on himself.

Assuming Godwin is done for the year that's a big blow to the Bucs, he was probably the best WR2 in football. NFC probably comes down to MIN, GB, or DET this season, which is crazy. Not buying the commies with a rookie QB and sketchy defense. MAYBE the Eagles if they can remain healthy, but don't trust their D either.
