The Bills are two games ahead of the Jets and it's not even midseason yet. They only beat the Jets by 3. If the Jets had pulled it off they would be tied in the division.

And did they fill a huge need? Cooper has been having a bad year, is 30, and has never been on Adams's level, though he's been very good overall.

And he's IMO this close to falling off a cliff. Kind of reminds me of when the Colts traded for former Texan WR Andre Johnson. Sure he's an upgrade, how could he not be, but the more I think of it, the more I think they aren't getting that much out of him. But the first time he gets a long gainer or a TD, watch the media and all the other Cooperites pee their pants while shouting "he's back!!" lol

Why do you say he's this close to falling off a cliff? Anything to back that up?

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic is the most plugged in Bills beat reporter and is one of the best of the best at his job.

Anyway, he went back and watched every single snap Amari Cooper has taken this season and these were his takeaways:

  • "The primary thing evident when watching Cooper is that he is still getting open at a good rate. The Browns passing attack is so bad that it is sucking the life out of Cooper's weekly chances to be an impactful receiver."
  • "The ball placement to Cooper has been horrible, and several of the drops assigned to him resulted from an off-body throw. Cooper does deserve a pair of the drops because they hit him right in the hands, but it's not as overwhelming of a problem as you might except."
  • "You can sense a hint of frustration in body language on film. When he knows he read the defense correctly and popped open, only to see the throw sail over his head to a different area that was not as open. It's as if Cooper and the QB are speaking two different languages".
  • "He may not be as spry getting deep down the field as he was in his younger years, but when Cooper runs his routes, he glides. When he needs quick separation, he can get it with quick-footed release."

He goes on and on but I think the film shows Cooper isn't in his prime (obviously) but is still a really good WR that could use a change of scenery.

I definitely don’t think he’s Colts Andre Johnson washed.

I’m not sure that he’s better than Diggs, though (on the field anyway).

Adams puts up better numbers with mediocre QB play than Diggs does with elite QBs.

Last few posts have been about Amari Cooper, the Colts Andre Johnson comment specifically so.

I'm a huge Diggs detractor but as a pass catcher he's pretty clearly superior to Cooper. Diggs is pretty terrible off ball though and seems like a locker room problem to me. I'm not sure how to quantify that. I'm kind of tempted to say it's a wash in terms of actual value (not including contract), but again I'm a huge Diggs detractor.

Cooper and Keon feeding off each other should be fun. Keon has a knack for making contested catches and breaking tackles for some nice YACs. Cooper looks like a giant out that, and he's already making an impact even though he had one careless drop.

I was iffy on this move, but Buffalo desperately needed some depth behind Shakir, and instead they get a borderline #1 WR who they can fit under the cap. Solid work by Beane that comes with a potential high reward. A 3rd round pick isn't cheap, but these are the types of moves contenders can afford to make, especially a contender with an elite QB in his prime.
