Akureyri Huldufolk

Offense:
Formation/Scheme:   2WR/2TE(70%) , 3WR/1TE(30%),
Pass (60%), Run (40%)

Blocking:

Zone concepts in the run game,  let our athletic OL pull and get to the 2nd levels.    Garrett will be our focus in the passing game,  we’ll look to roll pass blocking to his side.    No double teams on the inside, we’ll look to provide inside help to Myles side.  Love will have hot routes with both his TE’s and RB.

Passing game:

Basic west coast principles with layered concepts.   Flood McBride and Kelce over the middle zones,  give Pickens and Dell plenty of opportunities deep.   We’ll look to run plenty of 2TE/2WR personal, but show plenty of formations;   Trips, 2 Tight, and standard 4 Wide.   Use our TE’s in motion often to help keep the LB and Edge eyes busy.   RB’s will be more involved in the pass game this week,  we’ll run a couple screens per QTR and also look to hit them on swing passes regularly.

Running game:
We’ll look to incorporate all 3 RB’s in our lineup this week,   expect 8-10 touches for each throughout the running and pass game.   If one gets hot, look for us to ride the hot hand.   In the running game, we’ll look to focus our attack with a mix of Inside Zone and stretch plays.

Goal #1 -   Give Love options at all levels of the field
Goal #2  -  Get our RB’s involved early in both the run and pass game
Goal #3  -  Trust Love to hit his hot routes and hit his playmakers in space

Defense:
Base: 4-2 Nickel
Subpackage: 4-3

Coverage: Zone(80%), Man(20%)

We’ll come out this week with majority of zone blitz coverages.   We move McDuffie into the slot this week to get him more involved in the action.    We’ll mix in a majority of inverted Cover 1 and cover 2 against Ivory Coast this week.   We want to put the pressure on Purdy early and limit the short/mid passing game.

We’ll role to Cover 0 man in the Redzone,  no specific man assignments.

LCB – Jaire
RCB – Jaylon
NB – McDuffie

Jaire and Jaylon will man the outside, McDuffie takes the slot,  Delpit and Queen will bracket the RB.  Strnad and Cook will bracket the TE.

Pass Rush:

We’ll be sending extra pressure early in this matchup, we want to get Purdy off his spot and into some errant throws.    We’ll mix our blitz packages between Queen, Strnad, and McDuffie.   Along the front 4, we’ll look to play gap control on the Edge and focus more on walking the OT’s back, aside from testing them around the corner.   Dexter and Jarrett will control the interior and let the extra pressure come in behind them.

Run Defense:

Stack the interior with pressure and play gap control on the outside.    We’ll come into this matchup running a ton of Cover 1, with McDuffie attacking from the slot.  We expect Ivory Coast to really attack us East/West this week and we believe this puts Delpit and McDuffie into the best positions to blow plays up quickly.

Goal #1 – Put the pressure on Purdy
Goal#2  - Limit YAC
Goal#3  - Control TE’s and RB in redzone.

Ivory Coast Black Rhinos

Motivation: Beat Akureyri.

Offense
Primary Formation: 11 personnel (Single Back & Shotgun formations)
Offensive Scheme:
Coming out for the first snap on offense, and receiving the official start to the game, is BDL stud Bo Nix. He will run an RPO with Kamara out of the backfield, and Amon-Ra St. Brown running the slant option. After this single play, Nix will come out and Brock Purdy will come in. We plan on having a balanced offense this game, leaning more on the passing game (60-40). Most plays will feature pre-snap motion to try and read the defense, as well as lighten the box. Later in the game we'll begin to add playaction passes once the run has been established. We'll monitor how the defense prefers to cover during this game, and will make halftime adjustments, using more flood route concepts against zones and slants, rub routes and crosses against man coverage. Our tight end will spend time both in-line and split out, and we will use him to chip on the Right Tackle side if the pass rush is causing problems. In addition, while 11 personnel is our primary package, we'll also feature 12 personnel to get two tight ends on at the same time, and use Engram in mis-match opportunities.

Running Game Focus:

  • Use 11 & 12 personnel to spread out the box and allow our OL to win matchups in the trench
  • Use double-teams to open holes for the backs to cut through
  • Take advantage of outside zone runs to the left side (behind Trent Williams)
  • Set up the play-action pass off the running game
  • Use pre-snap motion out the backfield to lighten the box pre-snap, both in 21 and 11 personnel
  • If cleared, we welcome back Nick Chubb and give him a few carries in the second half to see how he's looking; success means more carries
  • Don't be reckless and fight for extra yards to risk fumbling the ball, ball security first and foremost to help establish clock control

Passing Game Focus:

  • Use majority of 11 personnel to allow for mismatches with our receivers and other receiving weapons
  • Use route concepts that allow Purdy to make quick progression reads to find the open receiver (Look at primary, secondary, then other receiver targets)
  • Exploit our tight ends in coverage opportunities
  • Use our receivers YAC ability to take short catches into medium/big gains
  • Get the ball out quick to help offset offensive line pass protection, and use sliding protection and additional blockers if needed
  • Keep our backs in mostly to help pass protect, particularly paying attention to the right side
  • If the back sees the line holding up, leak out to provide a checkdown option
  • We'll utilize a variety of route concepts and see what types of coverage Akureyri favor, then start running more of those concepts
  • Against more Zone we’ll utilize flood concepts against one side of the field
  • Against more Man we’ll feature slants, rub routes, and stop-and-go routes
  • Incorporate jet sweeps and passes to beat an aggressive defense
  • Take advantage of play-action to hit the intermediate and deep routes against a worn out defense

Defense
Defensive Formation:
The Akureyri favor a two tight-end, two receiver set, so we'll counter by going with a base 4-3 alignment. Payne and Joseph-Day will man the middle, with Tuttle rotating and Jordan spilling time inside as well. Garrett and Mack start on the edges, with rotations to keep them fresh all game long (Turner, Taylor). Bobby Wagner will be the middle linebacker, Drue Tranquill will be the weakside linebacker, and Edgerrin Cooper will be on the strong side. AJ Terrell and Trevon Diggs will be the starting cornerback tandem, with Greg Newsome II being the nickel slot corner, and Womack III the dime slot corner. Cooper will be the first linebacker off, with Tranquill being the second. We'll maintain a four man defensive front throughout the game. If they ever go 5 wide, we’ll play a mixture of zone coverages with 4-1-6 personnel.

Against the Pass:

  • Use man coverage against the offense primarily, trusting our players to line up and beat theirs.
  • Mixture of bump and run at the line, jams so as to slow down quick route concepts, as well as playing off the line a little (giving a cushion) on long down and distances
  • Wagner will take the primary TE, with Tranquill (Cover 2) or a safety (Cover 1) taking the secondary TE. The other backer will take the HB.
  • Mix in zone coverages if they are taking advantage of routes to beat man and cause the quarterback to hold on the ball just a moment longer for our pass rush to win; zones will be cover 3 and cover 4 schemes in nature, while the man coverages will feature cover 1 or cover 2 over the top
  • Rotate defensive line to keep constant pressure and force mistakes
  • Collapse the pocket from the use of our elite edges and constantly pressure the quarterback, often into making bad throws
  • Take advantage of pass rush pressure to generate turnovers
  • Alternate Mack, Garrett, and Jordan inside on certain passing, as well as third and long packages while bringing Turner and Taylor off the bench for a ferocious pass rush

Against the Run:

  • The initial defender will be focused on securing and bringing the ballcarrier down to limit yards after contact; if a secondary defender reaches the ballcarrier they will try to strip the ball
  • Limit the number of stunts and twists along the defensive line, we'll rely more on winning the matchups and playing the gaps
  • Edges will contain the outside runs
  • One safety to drop down into the box pre-snap if needed
  • Constant rotation of defensive line to keep players fresh and wear down offensive line

I think the critical error here for Akron Ray (no i'm not even trying to spell it right at this point) is leaving Harrison one on one with Khalil Mack while rolling the blocking to the Ronnie Stanley side.  Both teams come in with really good rosters and solid plans otherwise so it's something like this that makes the difference in the end for me as we've seen Mack have huge games.  IC has it's own RT problem with Guyton being benched by Dallas but at least they are going to help him as the game goes along

Give me IC 17-16

I really like this matchup. I do like Purdy and ARSB especially against a zone blitzing D where ARSB os going to be feasting on. But the other side of the coin is the pressure Akureyri will be bringing in addition of its solid DL. I think overall Love will have a cleaner pocket to work with throughout the day and Akureyri wins the turnover battle.

Chatgpt made me not a liar and a vote went to ruskie

**Winner: Ivory Coast Black Rhinos**

**Score Prediction: 27-20**

**Summary:** Ivory Coast's edge in the trenches and Brock Purdy's quick decision-making should carry them to victory. Myles Garrett and Khalil Mack will disrupt Jordan Love, even with Akureyri's zone-blocking schemes and roll protection. Akureyri's offensive game plan, focusing on TE involvement and layered concepts, could still lead to some success, particularly over the middle with Kelce and McBride. However, Ivory Coast’s man coverage and pass rush will limit Love's deep ball threats.

On offense, Ivory Coast's balanced attack, featuring Alvin Kamara and a dynamic receiving group, should overcome Akureyri’s blitz-heavy zone. The Black Rhinos will capitalize on quick passes and outside zone runs, wearing down the Huldufolk’s defense and controlling the clock.

This one is very difficult, I think Akuroyri has a slightly better well rounded roster and thier players irl played well slightly better than ICBR imo. On the other hand Ivory Coast put together a better more comprehensive/detailed game plan and is the home team. I definitely had to do some dice rolls on this 1 to help make some final decisions.

I'm not a Love or Purdy truther, and I think both are a tinge overrated in the football world right now, but IC just feels stronger on both sides of the ball. I think the offense is effective, defense is dynamic and they do enough to win.

IC overcomes a first play Bo Nix pick 6 to win it comfortably, 24-14.

Best game of the week thus far. I was befuddled as to why Bo Nix was starting and gladly relieved it was a small role.

Im going with Akureyri as I think they can protect the edges against a potent pass rush. Purdy will play well with his own skill group but covering St. Brown with McDuffie is as good a matchup as you can with Brown.

Close, but 30-27 with the road team figuring out at the end.
