Would someone trade for Deshaun Watson's contract then cut him for a 1st rounder?

@Bitty 2.0 suggested something in the Raiders section which is interesting to think about:

OK, here’s the question of the day. Do we trade a seventh round pick to Cleveland for Deshaun Watson and their first round?

The Raiders can cut Watson and eat $80 million for a top five pick.

IIRC, didn't Cleveland take on Brock Osweiler's contract years ago for a pretty decent draft pick? Can you reasonably see anyone doing this? Would Cleveland give up a high 1st to simply get that historically awful contract off the books and rid themselves of Watson's dark shadow?

Cleveland wouldn’t do that. They’d rather eat the salary and have a Top 5 pick. Texans only received a 2nd for the Osweiler stuff.

What was Osweiler's contact vs. Watson? Also Brock just sucked, Watson sucks and is the vilian of the NFL hurting the franchise both on and off the field.

These are very different situations imo.

Not Positive but I think Cleveland owes DeSean Watson 140 million. The Raiders will eat 80 million and Cleveland will have the rest.

Ballpark figures

Holy **** I just looked it up. It’s 200 million in dead money.

Only team crazy enough to do this would be like the Commanders or the Raiders.

Josh Harris and Adam Peters are not Dan Snyder, so take the Commanders out of the running for this.

If this year’s QB class was last year’s, I think the Browns just cut him now.

There's no way you could trade for him and then immediately cut him, IIRC it'd be like a $175M+ dead cap hit. You'd have to trade for him, pay him $72M in 2025, and then cut him with a $72M dead cap hit in 2026. Unless you are just completely committed to tanking for the foreseeable future I'm not sure how you could sacrifice 25% of your cap space for two consecutive seasons for a 1st round pick.

Yeah, it's multiple FRPs at a minimum to take on that kind of dead money.

No way the Raiders take the whole amount  50% at most.
