SteelKing728
How will this move impact the Vikings this season, and should the team keep him for 2025?
agarcia34
Think this is a good spot for Jones. Honestly could even get a chance to start if Sam gets hurt or starts to go off the rails. Worst case get to get coaching from KOC that he can carry onto his next team.
notthatbluestuff
Already leads the roster in playoff wins in Minnesota.
Chiefs_5627
I dunno if he can be "fixed" but if there's a guy to do it, it seems like O'Connell is the one to try. Good get for both parties 👍
G
Good move on both sides. Got a guy with starting experience who got paid on a hot streak and could end up like a Nick Foles situation. Sam should get paid a lot more next year but if the Vikes want to trade the Raiders McCarthy for our 1st I'd do it as a Raiders fan. Minny keeps Sam and Daniel. 😃 God PLEASE give us a QB in Vegas. lol
Danger
I don't understand how this benefits Daniel Jones. Obviously he's on the bench, but do you really think he'd get a shot over McCarthy OR Darnold if he comes back next year?

minutemancl
I called backing up JJ McCarthy next year as his best option. He should probably stick with Minnesota next season too.

Short term signing with a coach known for revitalizing QB careers in his offense. A offense that Jones has yet to learn in the NFL that dozens of other Franchises are going to. At worst, this gives him a head start on learning said offense/concepts. Easier to switch to another team. Best case (not for Vikings fans), he gets an opportunity to start due to injury, catches on to the KOC offense quickly and pulls a Josh Dobbs. There is no downside. This isn't a long term signing. It's a 2 month learn and go type situation with a playoff contender. Seriously Daniel Jones or Nick Mullens? It's only the practice squad so he would be free to sign elsewhere if a starter goes down, still.
AFlaccoSeagulls
So for this year I could see why DJ would want to be in Minnesota. You've got Darnold who is a volatile starter already, but you have solid offensive coaching with KOC and an elite defense on a clear playoff team with receiving talent and a solid OL. Beyond this year, if he wants to stay in MIN you'd have to think it would be viewed as a backup role to JJ McCarthy, right? Or maybe he just wants to go year by year and evaluate things after the season. Who knows.

Mullens came in to our game last week following a Darnold injury that took him off the field, had seconds to prepare, and converted a tough 3rd down. no one asks him to be a go to starter which we all know he's not capable of, but as a backup he's done well. nothing insane about that approach.
