In my mind, the coach must absolutely be an offensive play caller.

I think for me that is a big part of it...we need a long term partnership between Caleb and a HC...sure we could get a guy like Vrabel and a great OC but you know your going to have that OC for a couple of years then your getting other teams coming from him...for me any defensive hire would be concerning and would have had to completely blown every other candidate out of the water...

There is more to being a HC in this league than being able to coach QBs and call plays...but we have to realistically says that has to be the priority and then surrounding that coach with other guys who can help him/buy him time to let him learn how to be a great HC makes a lot of sense...much like the Rams with Sean McVay...it's better to be a year too soon in on an HC rather than a year too late and miss them.

My first concern for

Ben Johnson: is that Detroit didn't absolutely stomp us on Thanksgiving. They should have had 5 TDs in the first half. One lost via fumble, but honestly Detroit played way below their talent level and let us back into the game. Go for the damn throat.

Thomas Brown: massive concern is that every game this year we look completely ineffective (especially early) then get into late game heroics by Caleb. What is with the cold starts, and constantly trying to play from behind?

So far they're my main two guys I've been interested in. Brady I liked at LSU but would need to dive more into his post collegiate stuff.

For me this isn't a concern for one reason...our team isn't as bad as it looks...we have a lot of talent on this team but they had quit on Flus...it is obvious that even the defence had given up on him...we don't have bad enough players for any team to blow us out at this point.

I’m not yet considering guys that haven’t been fired. I don’t see any way Shanahan is available. I can’t understand having Brady, Taylor and even Coen (who I do like a lot) over Vrabel. Taylor has been far less impressive with what he’s had to work with than Vrabel. Brady doesn’t inspire me at all. His resume is not that strong but seems like a typical Bears hire so it wouldn’t shock me at all if that’s who they pick.

Wouldn't be my preference but don't forget Kliff. He's likely to get an interview just due to his experience and ties to Caleb.

Also a dark horse is Lincoln Riley. He could be looking to leave USC and his agent is none other than..you guessed it..Trace Armstrong 😄 ...don't shoot the messenger

My top choice as of now is Ben Johnson. Joe Brady also intrigues me but need to make sure these guys are good leaders more than anything

If Shanahan gets the boot then he rises to the top of the list because he's proven already as a HC and he's a great Offensive mind who you could pari with Caleb for a long time

This may sound like a homer take but I truly think of all the HC openings Bears will be the most attractive

Don't eff this up Warren and Poles!

As attractive as the latest OC wunderkind looks from afar there are some things that should raise caution flags.  One of them is that his role in Detroit is that of an offensive strategist (schemes and game plans) and a tactician (game day play calling).  Is he actually in a leadership role the way he would need to be as a HC or do we see another Josh McDaniels type who was great playing under Belichick but very poor on his own?  Caution advised.  All that glitters is not gold.

Let's see how Thomas Brown works out in his role as interim HC before we look elsewhere.  Sometimes the best solution is right there under our feet and the easiest to deal with in a major transition.  Maybe yes or maybe no but with what he's shown so far with little to no time to do more than straighten out the kinks in someone else's offense what could he do with the time to install more of his own. He deserves a long hard look at the very least.  Johnson won't come easy or cheap.

Being an offensive minded candidate should be a leg up over any defensive candidate when you have a young franchise QB on your hands.

I would also disagree that Vrabel did more than Taylor...Vrabel got to the AFC championship game once and the other two times in the playoffs lost their first game...they also played in the cupcake NFC South...Taylor not only got to two AFC championship game but also won one and made it to the Superbowl in a division that is always difficult to win in.

I didn't forget Kingsbury...I just want nothing to do with him hahahaha

For me we are already starting to see the issues he had in Arizona come up in Washington...once the league gets some film of what he is trying to do they all figure out how to slow it down he can't adjust.

Riley I wouldn't mind as long as we could pair him with an old very experienced DC and allow them to run the defence without much oversight...think 2018 Nagy & Fangio...I doubt he leaves USC and all the money he is being paid there.

I agree we are the most attractive option in terms of players with Caleb being the jewel in the crown, resources & cap space...Only Jerry throwing huge sums of money at a coach could take them away IMO and if that is all that coach is after then they probably were never the right fit hear either way.

My top 6 in order:

Ben Johnson

Drew Petzing

Liam Coen

Mike Vrabel

Joe Brady- I have him this low because he wasn't the OC at LSU like a lot of people think he was. He went to Carolina and was awful and got fired. He did replace Dorsey in Buffalo but they've only been 1 ppg and 10 ypg better

Josh McCown

----------------

I would think the Bears top 6+ would look like this, in no order:

Kellen Moore- Trace Armstrong guy, seems like a nice dude

Joe Brady- see Moore reasoning

Ron Rivera- minority. former Bear, good leader, only issue is he's been a HC and they don't want that

Brian Flores- minority, defensive mind, HC reasoning above from Rivera

Jesse Minter- young, doesn't seem to yell a whole lot, defensive guy

Ben Johnson- they'll be pressured by fans/media to seriously consider him but he seems like a controller and independent guy which will rub them the wrong way

Lincoln Riley- the thought will be the fan base will like this (see Tony La Russa) + he's a Trace guy too

Having Joe Burrow as opposed to Tannehill and the other junk QBs Vrabel had to work with makes a huge difference. If Tennessee were able to land a Burrow or Herbert then Vrabel is on his way to a very long tenure down in Tennessee. I’m not convinced Taylor is much better than Nagy. He just has a can’t miss QB.

Pass on the defensive guys and would only be interested in Shanahan among the fires guys.
