Sign a vet like Alex Smith, draft Lamar Jackson sixth overall and bring back McCown for added competition. That would solve the QB problem. Trade Hackenberg to a team looking for a project QB in exchange for a veteran starter somewhere...CB, C, whatever. Release Petty. I'd be all over signing Smith and drafting Jackson. I think Smith could be great for Jackson too.
Bobby816
I hope these extensions don’t make them think there job is safe. Macc needs to build this team in 1 off season or he’s out. QB can’t be a developmental guy again. We CAN NOT START AN AVERAGE VET AT QB AGAIN!!! Period!!! Make a splash in some sort of way!!!

It means they'll get 2 years to develop the QB they take in the draft or have 2 years to make the playoffs if they sign Cousins. If they don't sign Cousins or go big for a QB in the draft they'll be fired after the season.

Hack still hasn’t gotten his shot and I’ll be damned if we move him and Hoodie picks him up and turns him into a stud.

Bobby816
Macc and Bowles have pretty much said already that Hack will be back, so let that go. Petty wi9ll be the one getting the axe. Bc unlike Hack he didn't prove himself in actual games. He got 7 starts I believe to prove himself and he didn't.

Makes much more sense financially as well
Jag68Sid87
Whether Hackenberg returns or not is irrelevant, really. He'll be the No. 3, weekly inactive (hopefully). The veteran we acquire and the rookie we draft should be 1-2, in whatever order. Hoping that Hackenberg suddenly figures his *&^% out is a fairy tale, and I don't think even Maccagnan believes can come true anymore either. We draft a guy like Rosen or Darnold and I think you are absolutely right. We draft a guy like Allen or Jackson and I think you are wrong. One of the hardest things for these spread offense QBs to do coming into the NFL is learning an NFL system and playbooks. Last I checked Hack has been doing that for a couple years. So while Hack might not have the talent of a guy drafted, he will be higher on the depth chart bc his familiarity with the NFL and the offense. Same reason why Petty started this season over Hack.
