Was he really to blame? Seemed like Carr was never right after his injury

Directly and indirectly, yes. He hired horrible coordinators in KNJ and Downing. Both dug his grave. Also he apparently lost the locker room and there were major issue going on behind closed doors.

We needed a fresh start and a coach that holds players accountable. KNJ is far from that sadly.

He has always been a mediocre at best Coach. Only had back to back winning seasons once in his career, and that included a 9-7 season.

Last year, he relied on MVP caliber play from Derek Carr and Khalil Mack to carry the team to 12 wins. Seriously the amount of games Carr pulled out at the end of the game was staggering. It wasn't due to great coaching. The defense, JDRs forte, has been trash for all 3 years Del Rio has been here. He badly mismanaged the coordinator hires/fires. It was time

It was time after signing a 4 year extension or something like that not even a year ago? It's nothing but a compulsive move based on nothing but the name brand that is Gruden, whose been a ghost in NFL circles for nearly a decade. It's just another story line driven Raiders move....just like Marshawn Lynch last offseason....

He should have never been given the extension. The 2016 Raiders weren't that good at all. The defense was garbage outside of Khalil Mack and hasn't improved in any of his 3 years here. The offense was good, mostly due to Bill Musgrave who JDR fired, and because Derek Carr was playing like a bona-fide MVP winning games on last minute drives.

Go look at how many close games that team won. I think we were something like 7-1 in one score games, that's not a sustainable recipe for success. We really should've been an 8-8 team, but the ball just bounced our way a couple more times.

JDR has always been a mediocre coach. Basically a poor man's John Fox

Every coach "loses the locker room" after enough losing happens :)
