What TE would we carry on PS if Sternberger is cut?

Pretty telling, actually. Trying out PS TEs knowing Sternberger is gone.

The Packers don't have to make a decision regarding Sternberger until after Week 2.  I'd imagine that our TEs are going to be Tonyan, Lewis, Deugara, and Dafney in some variation.  The only way this TE move affects Sternberger is if they try and expose Dafney to waivers, and someone claims him IMO.

You think the Packers will leave him on the suspended list and then release him after two weeks? Guess it makes sense in case we have a couple of injuries in week 1 or 2 at the position.

I think that is the only way he sees the 53 though.

Yes.  Because who knows what's going to happen in the first two weeks.

Ben Fennell -    Jordan Love - 66 snaps. 39 Dropbacks

PROS

- Accurate in Structure
- Touch vs Velocity
- Pocket Feel + Eyes
- Arm Angles
- Comfortable on Perimeter
- Defender in Face
– Boot/Screens
- Checkdowns

CONS

- Urgency in Drops/Fakes
- Drifting/Fall Away
- Decision Making vs Pressure

Young QBs are all about consistency and avoiding the high-variance play from play-to-play, drive-to-drive, week-to-week I can find plays/examples that suggest the opposite of many of these points but it's evaluating the entire body of work.

CHTV  -   Josh Myers has been drawing rave reviews all through camp as the new starting center.

Fellow rookie Royce Newman has been PFF's highest-rated offensive lineman in the preseason.

Jon Ruyan Jr looked like a future starter in his fill-in duty last year, Billy Turner has been a solid, versatile player in his time with Green Bay, and newcomer Dennis Kelly brings another steady veteran presence.

Plus Ben Braden, Lucas Patrick, Jake Hanson, and Yosh Nijman are in a tight battle for the final depth positions on offensive line.

This is looking like the deepest, most talented group of offensive lineman the Packers have had in a long time.

But offensive line, more than any other position group in sports, needs to function as a single unit.  All players have adjustments to make as a play unfolds, but none are as complexly intertwined as offensive line, where success depends on continuity and familiarity just as much as talent.

That is where the Packers are sorely lacking.

Without Bakhtiari (who seems unlikely to play week 1), the Packers only have two players (Jenkins and Turner) who have spent time as the preferred starter for Green Bay and they've each been with the team only two years. Both of them have also had to move around and play different positions as injuries dictated.

When the Packers start the season, they will have different players at left tackle, center, and right tackle than they started with last year. Odds are high that at least one of their guards will have to move to a tackle position, too.

Thank god we have a work-in-progress week 1 and a cupcake in week 2.

I hear levees are failing.

It’s an awful  situation. I love the city of New Orleans but it is squarely between 3 bodies of water and much of it sits below sea level. Let’s all hope for the best outcome of a terrible reality.

It certainly sounds like the Packers front office is sick of his ****.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they cut sternberger, kept four TE’s and sign a guy to the PS.  Sometimes, messages need to be sent to the team- and by all accounts, Sternberger has disappointed the coaches with his on field AND off field performance.

Bruce Irons - Packers FTW -   The Packers knew they wouldn't be able to afford Corey Linsley, so they took Jake Hanson last year to see if he could develop into a starting center. When they saw he couldn't, they used a high pick on a sure thing in Josh Myers. Very smart planning and drafting.

  • Ken Ingalls - Packers Cap -   It's almost like they had a plan.

No. Jones was first.

But we have Jones/Myers instead of Hill/Linsley.

Who does everyone pick?

Also need to factor in the 4.5m extra in cap hits spread across the two years. Which is significant seeing as we have no money.  So you might be talking Jones/Myers/Another Player v  Hill/Linsley

Ultimately Linsley is old and starting to pick up injuries. Signing someone like to a 3rd contract is rarely a good idea especially in a position like C.   I just wouldn't ever consider re-signing him.

I would like to see us going back to drafting OL in the 4th or 5th every year. We have had great success with that, they aren't going to hit but enough will hopefully to create a nice conveyor belt and we never have to worry about depth or signing bad 3rd contracts.

Would probably do the same with RB as well. Draft OL in the 4th or 5th every year and a RB in the late rounds every year.

Jake Hanson was a lottery ticket. Myers is a higher percentage move, but there are no 'sure things'. When people like Bruce suggest that a higher pick is a sure he feeds a false narrative, in turn fueling the nitwits to lose their minds every time a draft pick doesn't work out. Yes the Packers had a plan, they always have a plan, just no sure things in those plans.
