I'd be ok if he went to kick for another team no reason to retire. He's had a great run, came back after that one horrendous season but his leg just isn't there. Time to get younger and cheaper at the position. Either draft a big leg late or an FA.

If you listened to Gutes talk about him at the combine you would know he doesn't agree with you.

We know about his bad year.  Well documented.

Outside of that...when is the last time he missed a game winning field goal?

We can rip on him all we want...dude's been a pretty incredible kicker for us.  And I can tell you that I've never felt great having him kick a long game winner, but he's consistently proven me wrong.

So game winning kicks missed...I go instantly to that Bengals game when no one wanted to make a field goal until Crosby snuck one in.  He has to have missed others, can you recall any off of the top of your head?

Mason Crosby never misses.

Hold on did the team MLF among others not say they wanted AR back right after the season ended?

You go ahead and buy stock in what Gute said at the combine. If Gute brings back Mason at anymore than 1 MIl per season it woudl be a stupid move. I mean why would a team up against the cap bring back an old over priced vet with a weak leg. if we are rebuilding it's time to add a new leg too. Mason and his price won't be the difference, it's a throw away year.

on top of that why invest so heavily in ST last year and this year only to kick the ball on KO to the 10yard line. Or better yet once it gets cold only kick FG's from inside the 40. Just not worth it his leg has been done for a couple years.

He's done and Gute like any other GM is always going to rave about every player current or past. Until such time as they are gone. Gute has to protect every angle and isn't going to put any cards on the table. It's poker why would he tell anyone what cards he has.

He's been decent, but his dam KO is terrible. He can barely get to the line. Plus he's getting more and more blocked, NO leg he's a great guy, but time to move on to a younger stronger leg.

That whole take was a polluted bias and has nothing to do with what Gutes said.

Polluted and bias holy cow. Over some GM speak from the combine. This your first year heating GM interviews. From what i have learned they tell the whole truth and nothing but it:).

Seriously we're talking about a kicker that is long in the tooth and can't take a KO to save his life. I just don't understand how you would take any GM's comments as valid. Year after year the same thing happens GM of X team says we love this guy we want him back. And he ends up gone.

Gute isn't going sit and tell anyone anything on TV about moves for his personnel. Sure he'll comment after a move is made or not made. Your crazy to believe anything that any GM would be saying about players right now, he learned from the Wizard man. You wonder why no one has any info on the Jets trade yet. I wonder why, did Gute say something at the combine.

Get serious I don't care if Crosby is back, but it would be a terrible decision if he was brought back for anything over the vet minimum.

i'll put my comments to stand avatar bet you Crosby is not on this team this year. Wanna play?

You're funny, doubling down and you still have no clue what was even said. Just keep ramblin' on down the highway.

Yeah but you have to look at potential cap space and future commitments. Per Ken Ingalls, if Rodgers is traded for a 2nd round pick, draft class is signed, Yosh signs his tender, Gary extended, etc. We are at $700k in cap space with very few moves that can actually open up more cap space for another free agent.

The one thing Ken keeps missing is that we are going to generate cap space naturally with roster cuts.

For example, we're not going to keep JRJ as a backup guard. If he gets beat in camp, he's cut to save a net of $2m. Jonathan Garvin can net us $260k. If Luke Freakin' Tenuta doesn't make the roster we save $120k.

All-in-all it will add up to a few million in cap savings just by employing our rookies.

So let's say we clear $3m from roster cut downs (this is likely a lower guess than reality - especially since I'm pretty sure JRJ is losing his starting job and getting cut). That would allow us to sign a free agent now that costs $3m or less.

Using Foster Moreau as an example, other contracts made this offseason suggest he could be reasonably signed for 2 years, $13.5m with three void years.

Let's say he gets $7.18m in year one: that's a $1.08m base salary plus $100k workout bonus and a $6m signing bonus spread across five years. That totals up to a first year cap hit of $2.38m gross, and only $1.63m net.

So we can comfortably sign a free agent or two at this point and not have to worry about going over the cap.

He cost us that game vs Det where he missed like 5 fgs, but I chalk that up to "dude had the worst day of his life after years of consistency."

Crosby might be the guy everyone wants replaced only to wander around lamenting that he's gone when the new kicker is up and down.

I'm not arguing against leg strength.  I think he's lost a lot of it.

The kickoffs?  I think he did lose steam last year on those.  But in prior years, we asked him to hit it high and to a spot, assuming that our coverage units would get the tackle inside the 25.  And they rarely did.  So I feel like a lot of the "he can't kick it into the endzone" was schematic....prior to last year.

Blocks.  While our snapper got better last year, he still wasn't very good.  Prior to last year Bojo was an awful holder.  Our newer punter was a much better holder.  But Mason lived through a lot of different specialists there, the blocks are not all on him.

I hope we find a new kicker, but if we do not, I'm also good bringing him back.  No issue whatsoever.
