This season is a throw away. Too many holes exist to compete with the elite teams. The wr group is embarassing. ILB is thin. And we probably need another spaceeater at DL.

With that said, Gute has rebuilt the organization quicker than expected.

Not sure the season is a throw away;  let's see how the team responds to this butt kicking.  However, the positions you mentioned needing help is correct and probably not all inclusive.  Thompson left the cupboard pretty frickin bare his last few years.  Gute has done a pretty good job filling holes through draft and free agency but needs another year.  That being said, the coaching has to step it up!  Not sure Pettine and his schemes are the real deal, special teams isn't anywhere near special and the offense has to be better consistently.  Team is better than last years ... get to 8-2 at the bye ... finish up 12-4.  That would be a pretty good rebuilding year.

Still think the team gets to the playoffs and after two straight losing seasons that is tangible progress.

But OMG yes, Gute has absolutely got to go back to filling some more of the holes he inherited and he cannot rely solely on the draft to plug the holes at WR/DLine/ILB.

Do we have to cap  room to bring in any more legit free agents next off season? I think the Jimmy Graham experiment should be over so that will clear up room. I agree with the group that thinks Gute has done a good job considering what he was left with and considering how much longer he has Rodgers. I still think yesterday is a throw away game but we will learn a lot in the next three weeks. Carolina looks good and they can run. That is something we can't stop. Then we will see how this team does coming off a bye and going back out west to play  a very good 49'ers team.

This place got real negative real fast

We got our *** handed to us by a good (but not great) Chargers team.  Minnesota lost to a Mahomes-less Chiefs team, Colts lost to Big Ben-less Steelers team, etc.  Every team has off days.  I'm not making any kind of definitive opinions of this team based on one game.  God, we're spoiled.

No reason to be negative about losing one game on the road. Reason to be negative that we're having the same problems, especially on defense, that have been glaring since weeks 3-4 and nothing has changed. Same personnel and same scheme. Those problems won't simply go away. That's the concern here and it's a major one, and I'm not sure if it's a Pettine problem or the fact that we're devoid of talent at DE and ILB on this team and our guys simply can't execute against the NFL talent across from them on the field.

Pettine is going to be under the microscope this week .. and he should be.  He needs to come up with something a little more creative .. or at least something a little more effective.  The game plan against this next opponent should obviously be to limit McCaffrey any way you possibly can and make the QB beat you.  Easier said than done I'm sure.

And somehow we're 7-2, and leading the NFC North.  And somehow you'd think we're 2-7 by reading some of these posts.
