So, at what point did Marv sell his soul to the devil?  Was it 02 or 03?

I think it's the other way around. This is like torture for Lewis - like Prometheus rolling the boulder up the hill, only to have it roll back down.

He made somebody really mad at the front office, and they said "Worst punishment ever would be to stick him with Mike Brown...forEVER!!!"

Only way this makes sense. Only way.

I'd laugh harder if I did not feel so bad for Bengals fans.  They thought they were finally free of him.

Sadly for us Cowboy fans,  we don’t have room to mock. Jason Garrett is the NFC’s version of  Marvin Lewis.

Ultimately, I get that - but it's not the "right" kind of consistency in Cincinnati. Once upon a time, this team made the playoffs pretty frequently, WITH Andy Dalton.

Lewis is good enough to get you into the middle of the pack churn - that's his ceiling. His floor is the last few years, which is football purgatory.

And I agree with that to a point, but the reality is that it's going to be a lot easier for the Bengals to find a head coach who comes up short of improving on Lewis than the other way around. He hasn't done it in the playoffs. I get that. His ceiling isn't getting his team over the hump. I get that too. He's basically the Andy Dalton of coaches. It's easy to say he's not getting it done, but have fun trying to find someone better.
