Drafting A RB This Year?

the lone star

Recommended Posts

Would you all consider it with the depth there is in this class? I really miss 2014 where DeMarco was the lead back, but both Dunbar and Randle got their opportunities as well. All 3 could catch passes, while Randle could hit home runs, Dunbar was the agile back that run the best routes, and DeMarco was obviously the prototype for the team's scheme.

Alfred Morris may leave as a FA, and while I like Smith, I still want a pass-catching specialist and/or a home-run hitter. So with that in mind, I really hope the team can draft a RB this year. If not, then maybe sign one as an UDFA (an Ekeler or Breida type might be available) or just pickup someone that is out there (look at what the Patriots did with Burkhead).

Only in round 5-7. But I do think it should be somewhat of a priority. As good as Zeke is, I fear we're going to run him in the ground. I mean in the last game, a COMPLETELY meaningless game, we gave him 30 carries against an extremely physical defense. I think they'd rather run him into the ground and get 4 mega, superstar years as opposed to 7 or 8 star years.

5-7 are not priority rounds.

It depends on what we do with Morris. If he is out then yeah grab one. I feel like Rod Smith and Zeke will for sure be back. Rod is Jaylons brother and Zeke's college roommate, plus he did little to disappoint in his limited snaps. He is at the very least a competent\good RB3 with incredible organizational ties. No reason to replace. Zeke is obviously in so that's 2. If we keep Morris then there's no need for a wasted draft pick.

I personally would like to replace Morris with a rookie like Sony Michel or one of the Alabama RBs. All of which could be had in the 3-5 round range possibly. Not to mention Nick Chubb, or 15 others that could add more upside to the roster than Morris. But it is a luxury no doubt. A luxury that might make sense for a team that (should) wants to run the ball.

We need a scat back. Someone who can run like the wind. Someone like Darren Sproles.

The best scat back (Bryce Love) is looking like a 1st round pick should he declare.

Ronald Jones from USC looks like a nice scat back as well, but he’ll likely be a 2nd round pick.

Apparently he (Jones) received a 2nd round grade from the committee. Which, bodes exceedingly well if we get so many RBs taken prior to our 2nd round pick. Means another talent player falls to us.
