Cole Beasley was a UDFA in 2012. He was a fan favorite that year to make the team. He had a brief mental problem and quit the team. It took Cowboy front office personnel to travel to where ever he was and convince him to come back and finish the good work he had started. He finished that season with 15 catches for 128 yards and 0 TD’s

Since then he has been a mainstay in our Offensive planning.

2013 - 39 rec 368 yards 2 TD

2014 - 37 rec 420 yards 4 TD

2015 - 52 rec 536 yards 5 TD

2016 - 75 rec 833 yards 5 TD

2017 - 36 rec 314 yards 4 TD

In 2018 Beasley will enter the final year of his contract with a base salary of 3.25 mil (according to SporTrac) and 1 mil signing bonus.  If he is traded he would count as 1 mil in dead money vs the 4.25 mil he would currently hold.

In 2017 Cowboys drafted another WR in Ryan Switzer with damn near identical skill sets as Beasley. So, is this the eventual replacement? It’s hard to say as we had an extremely small sample of Switzer this season.

So, the question is, would you trade Beasley now while his contract is relatively small and he is just entering the prime of his career? What compensation would you require for this shifty slot receiver who has a knack for the 1st down marker and can consistently move he chains?

A team like the Bears would be a good trade partner for Beasley, Tribisky would probably be happy to have that old type of reliable slot receiver that he had in Switzer back @ North Carolina. Even if we were offered a 7th rnd. pick I would be happy you free up another roster spot on the team instead of having 2 smaller players that could help the Cowboy's going out to find a speed receiver. Also it allows other players to get more playing time in training camp.

I'd imagine we cut him instead of trading him. So if we get a 7th for him I am good.

More like we let him play out 2018 for us, then he hits free agency and we get a comp pick if anything for him.

how's that?

In his limited showing he demonstrated an ability to create separation-which is especially important for this team.

His return game showcased how elusive he is.

But, more importantly his cost is low and Cole's is high given the output. So, in this case, he's good enough.

He hasn't shown any hands yet. So will he can separate, he still has lot more to.prove if you ask me.

He hasn't dropped any passes either.

Does anyone even have proof that Switzer is even good?

Proof? Maybe not. But evidence? Absolutely.

Let's see... He's a two time All American in college, first team all ACC as a receiver, first team all ACC as a returner, then solidified his talent by being a 4th round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys, did well in limited opportunity. He finished with 6 catches and 41 yards with most of that coming in his only real opportunity week 17 where he had dismal QB play and finished with more yards than Dez. Also only 7 people this millennium have returned a punt for a TD as a Dallas Cowboy and Switzer is one of them.

So proof? Idk... We are talking about replacing Beasley here not Larry Fitzgerald. You have to hope Switzer can not only do that but improve that.
