Coaching Staff:

~Steve Spagnuolo is hired as the new DC

I had a whole bunch of other scenarios laid out, but it appears all the other spots have been filled!

An established, veteran defensive mind to pair with MM.  Spagnuolo probably would be enticed by the Packer position.  At 58, he’s got one more shot to get another HC position.  If he fixes our defense, with the best QB on the planet on the other side of the ball, he very well might be hoisting a Lombardi trophy, and in doing so get him another HC position.

Resigned:

~Morgan Burnett S

We have the makings of an excellent secondary.  Don’t mess around with it!  I fear Burnett would become another Casey Hayward or Micah Hyde.  Lock the boy up and enjoy the benefits of having two awesome safeties to pair next to each other.

~Davon House CB

Knows the system, tall, can run, and most of all, I can’t see him being expensive.  Adds depth, veteran savvy and should be worth bringing back...

~Richard Rodgers TE

I personally don’t see much of a market for Rodgers.  He lacks elite speed and athleticism, however, if his a tough, gritty, hard nosed player who knows our system and adds depth.

~Jeff Janis WR

Never developed as a WR the way many were hoping, but too valuable on ST to let walk.  Should be inexpensive...

Cut/Not Resigned:

~Brett Hundley

~Demetri Goodson

~Jahri Evans

~Ahmad Brooks

~Quinton Dial

Free Agent:

~Ziggy Ansah DE

I don’t think it super matters if we run a 4-3 or a 3-4, either way we need an EDGE rusher, and Ansah may very well fit the bill.  Super productive and deceptively thick and stout against the run, Ansah’s true value to this team is as a pass rusher, and he and Perry could form an awfully productive bookends to the front four (which BTW, could be awfully good when you factor in Clark and Daniels).

I know people are going to ask about the economics, and TBH, I don’t have an answer.  Isn’t that why though you hire a capologist to figure out making moves?

~Geno Smith QB

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2017/1203/r298054_576x324_16-9.jpg

I see a lot of similarities between Smith and the same position that was addressed by my last week’s mock Mark Sanchez.  Both are talented, both are former starters, neither is fit to start in the NFL anymore, but could be awfully good off the bench.  I think the lack of success of Hundley means a shift of philosophy.  If indeed Rodgers gets hurt, the best person to man the helm is a journeyman NFL QB with some success in the NFL; not some whelp who the stage is too big for.  At the very least, Smith would be an upgrade over Hundley...

The Draft:

With the 14th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Quenton Nelson G Notre Dame

6’5” 325 lbs. 5.15/40

https://s3media.247sports.com/Uploads/Assets/564/798/6_7798564.jpg

Massive and talented OL prospect with impressive quickness and athleticism.  If the lost season of 2017 has taught us anything, it’s the undeniable importance of Aaron Rodgers’ health.  Nelson gives us an amazingly talented big man upfront to protect our franchise and hopefully prolong his career!

With the 46th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Hayden Hurst TE South Carolina

6’5” 250 lbs. 4.65/40

Athletic and productive TE that becomes the future at the position.  Our situation gives us an enviable position.  We have an athletic and talented prospect to develop, but an experienced veteran in Lance Kendricks to man the position until Hurst is ready...

With the 78th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Parris Campbell WR Ohio State

6’1” 208 lbs. 4.44/40

Really love this prospect!  Has the size MM likes in his WRs, but the boy can run!  That coupled with his decent thickness should translate to really good YAC!

Injects some much needed speed and playmaking ability to our offense.

With the 110th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Brandon Parker T North Carolina A&T

6’8” 310 lbs. 5.20/40

Intriguing size, length, and athleticism.  I think we need as much depth along the OL as possible.  Parker’s size and athleticism make him an intriguing developmental prospect to possibly step in and start down the road.

With the 174th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Jarrett Stidham QB Auburn

6’3” 210 lbs. 4.72/40

Productive and accurate collegiate QB.  Should be an excellent mid-to-late round talent to bring along slowly.

With the 212th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Jarrod Franklin S Tulane

6’0” 205 lbs. 4.57/40

Franklin has a lot of intrigue.  Always around the football, gets a ton of tackles, great pick late in the draft!

Before you erase it, love Quenton Nelson!

It'd be amazing what Nelson could bring to the table.  I think this last season has taught us just how important the health of Rodgers is.  Nelson has the potential to be the best in the league at his position.  IDK, this could be a coup...

I’d definitely be excited for the offense. Think we still need some playmakers on defense.

I'm actually of the opinion we are not that far off as a defense.  Not having an elite rusher is kinda like not having a QB.  I really think an elite EDGE rusher (be it a 3-4 or 4-3) would tie that defense together perfectly, but hey, that's just me!

I agree, I've said before in some of my earlier mocks.  He could be a plug and go at RG, I like his nastiness.  The Packers need some of that kick ash attitude.
