Because we didn’t meet with Vea. Just Pettis.

And that’s yet another reason why Marinelli needs to be fired. That idiot still can’t recognize that there is significant value to a 1-tech DT.

I don't think Vita Vea will be there at 19.

Marshall

There were about 16 teams on hand for the Marshall pro day, including Reggie McKenzie of the Oakland Raiders. Several teams who wanted to see quarterback Chase Litton throw were unable to travel to West Virginia due to the nor’easter barreling down the east coast.

Litton threw a scripted workout of 75 passes, and only three hit the ground. He’s receiving a lot of interest from the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Reskins, New England Patriots andCleveland Browns.

I’m told all 32 teams were in attendance at CU pro day,

Western Kentucky transfer T.J. McCollum, another linebacker with next level potential as a back-up/special teams player, also had a solid outing. After measuring 6-feet-1.5-inches and 236 pounds, he timed 4.75s in the forty, 7.1s in the three cone and 4.4s in the short shuttle. McCollum was able to reach 34 inches in the vertical jump and 9-foot—inches in the broad jump.

McCollum met with the Dallas Cowboys today.

By the system, the 1tech simply has to eat space and blocks. It is not a significant value in this system. We have just struggled to find consistency there.

Dont confuse "theres a signifcant value for this position" with just a simple "We havent found anyone who can play consistently there"

Find a mean hog for cheap and plug him in. You dont need a freak, you dont need a high price guy or high drafted guy, just a fatso whos steong tough and hard to move.

If this was a more conventional 43 front, where the Mike and Will arent dropping off the line but proactively attacking or playing the ball, then yes, a NT/1tech would be important. But in thjs system, the Will and Mike drop off from the front and play reactively to minimize big plays, and rely on the edge rushers and underman to create negative plays with a good jump and a fast shed of a block. The NT is just there to allow that underman a singular matchup.

I get what you're saying, however to me there can be a middle ground between high draft pick (1st or 2nd rd) vs ubdrafted guys who are out of the league in a few years.

Why can't we meet in the middle. A quality 3rd round pick or a Bennie Logan $5 million a year type that will make a difference.

We did a third or fourth (forget which) on Collins, who can play the part. And he did pretty well, problem is he needs to develop more upperbody strength for consistency there. And he will. Also, Irving is decent in a rotation there.

Also, we have tried throwing money at the spot before (Thornton, who was also a kind of in the middle type of underman and nose) and it didnt work.

As for Logan...youd give up that kind of cap space for a guy whos only role is to literally be hard to move? Come on thats a tremendous waste.

I think too many guys here expect stats from ghis role. You see 1 tackle in a game or maybe 2 and think, he isnt performing. But in this system, he could be doing a great job, and have 0 tackles all season long. His role is to literally just hold up two guys enough so the undertackle has a single matchup. 3, 4, 5 million in cap space on a guy whos job is the easiest in the entire front 7 is an absolute waste - if thats the case, pony up a bit more and keep Hitchens, cause even at 9mil a year hed have  etter value to this system than a 5mil a year nose.
