No pizzazz, no nonsense, easily gets combative and argues with the media as per his time with the Browns. He's a great QB coach and a good offensive mind. Luckily NYG is familiar with the Coughlin experience which will be similar to Shurmur's affect in pressers and media. He'll do well there if he's learned lessons from past opportunities. It's a good hire. Will Shurmur gel with Josh Rosen?? Will Baker Mayfield be his guy? Will be interesting to see how he sees the QB decision. Some great insight here. I think this hiring puts to rest any thoughts that the Giants are going to go somewhere besides QB with #2. This is similar to what Philly did with Wentz and Pederson. Interesting to note that, by all beat writer accounts, Shurmur had the best interview. I think he talked a lot about what he learned from his time in Cleveland. I worry about his leadership abilities, especially after Mcadoo's undoing was the result of him having none, but I think Gettleman's strength of building good locker rooms will help with that. Overall he was one of the guys I'd be happy with, so I'm happy with the decision.

Shurmur is odd in that he had success in Minnesota, add the Eagles offense under Chip was good(although that was 100% Chip's offense), but he was a disaster in St. Louis and Cleveland. If he can replicate Minny's success this year, it is a great move. I think a lot of Rams fans have changed their tune on Shurmur. He was frustrating with Bradford because of how conservative the offense was, but a lot of us realized in the years after he left that the offense was conservative because our talent stunk. We didn't have an OL that could block well enough for long-developing passing plays, and our WRs weren't going to separate even if the OL could block well enough (except Alexander but he was always hurt). At the end of the day, Shurmur did reasonably well considering all the things stacked against him. And I expect he's learned and improved since his time in STL. Now, I still need to see what sort of staff he can pull before I can be sold on him, but I think he's earned the job. He's definitely earned another chance.

SteelKing728
I would call this speculation, as nothing is concrete yet. No contract signed. but if the Giants want Shurmur then they can wait. for a while. Edited January 16, 2018 by SteelKing728

Shurmur has been very good for us. unfortunately for you though, the Bears would still have to play against his team if the Giants hire him haha! Jeezla
Does Davis Webb have starter potential? I thought he was a pretty solid QB prospect.
