His YPA is 3 yards higher than his career average prior to this year. Trevor Lawrence was 28/39 with 262 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Huh. These were quarterbacks looking like career backups last year. Crazy how a new head coach and a proper supporting cast can make a bust look like a franchise QB. It's almost like any team can have strong production from their QB if they're paying their QB a rookie contract. Both teams have sucked for years and amassed top talent in the draft. Then they drafted QBs at 1 and 5 overall. This is supposed to be how the draft works to favor terrible teams but it is a painful strategy for the fans if you want to draft that high for years. Are you really going to put a feather in your cap that the #1 pick is starting to look like a good player? They paid big money for FA WRs too. Or that all it takes for Tua to look good is investing a top 10 pick, and a 1st and multiple mid round picks + a massive contract into his WRs? If GB was starting Love, and we took Olave and then traded our other 1st and multiple picks for Hill, you would've had an aneurysm and told us the franchise was doomed. According to you, they should ride it out with Lawrence for 2 more years and trade him, and hope after 20 years of obscurity that they can find another QB and not suffer another 20 years.

If you’ve got an adaptable offensive minded coach, and if you have the cap space and draft capital, you can find a QB good enough to win a Super Bowl. Also, no aneurysm. When you’re paying your QB cents on the dollar, that’s when you can get aggressive.

Mazrimiv
Wouldn't SF be the model for going all in on building a very good team around a young/cheap QB? Even now they still have the cheap "good enough to win" QB that seems to be so coveted.

I hesitate to post stuff like this about other teams because all teams are one or two snaps away from losing franchise players and I don’t want to invite that dark cloud over our house. Will be interested to see how they handle an injured Herbert. At some point, you’ve got to cut your losses and protect the future. His injury won’t get better taking NFL hits. PossibleCabbage
It's just that the Chargers perhaps should have not built the entire franchise out of cursed pieces. They need a Shaman or something to burn some sage. I have seen the Chargers assemble among the if not the most talented roster in football many times, and then *always* something goes terribly wrong.
