I don't know if that is the norm or not. There are tons of horrible charities, but I think the top charities in the country claim to spend 90 cents of every dollar on the programs that help people directly. They are rated by outfits like Charity Navigator & charity watch, so there is some accountability out there.

The Hilton in LA vs the Paper Valley in Appleton in November is really a no brainer. Why would any player want to be 30+° colder with nothing to do?

For most athlete charities? Yeah. Usually smaller amounts of donations + larger wages because they employ people they know. Don't give to athlete charities. If they have an event/signing and you attend and at least get something for your money, fine. If you want to give to a charity, the nationwide/local ones are far more beneficial. The athletes themselves would probably do more good just giving directly, but that doesn't get your name in the paper.

LeBron's a billionaire, he's done a lot for Akron, if you live in Akron, probably not a terrible cause for you to contribute to. Most often, if you have $100 to give, you're not better off donating to athlete charities, are you claiming that's incorrect?
