Why though? He was just a minor league player in baseball for 3 years or whatever it was.

Because he's been out of the league for 8 years - was attempting a return at a position he'd *never* played at any level (least of all the NFL level.....) and is 34 now - an age when many / most players are considering retirement - not - taking a second shot in coming years.

Now - if that pension angle to his story is accurate and he can gain (or improve his standing) while on the PS - he might jump at the chance. I dont know the veracity or details of this though.

I also doubt - if the decision is based on talent and roster building - that Myers will keep him around. I dont think Tebow being on the PS will sell many PSLs or game tickets.

This idea that he turns his nose up at everything is a little overblown methinks

I'm not sure what this refers to.

When I get super rich, I'd invest in an MLS team. Just look at all the youth soccer numbers here and combine that with the CTE info that is going to keep coming in. It will be awhile, but soccer will overtake American football here some day.

You're right, but not for the reasons you think you're right...

The European and Latino influx in our nation's population has made soccer THAT much more popular given it's role within both Euro-centric and Latino cultures. FWIW, I was doing business in New Bedford, MA last week, which has a deep Portuguese-American history. I went out with some colleagues to a local restaurant and just about every TV had either a European soccer game and Portuguese soccer game on it.

I too would certainly invest in an MLS team or even a league that may not be to the standards of MLS. As long as there's enough money driving the league, it should take off over the next 10-15 years.

He came back to football after 8 years and a new position but he would not accept taking a spot to learn that position? I'm not sure I get the logic there.

You're too hung on the pension theory. I'm not saying he wouldn't want it, it's not like he's incredibly wealthy but I'd imagine he's doing okay with his speaking arrangements. Either way, is Myers was trying to do him a solid, cutting him on the first cut day after one game wasn't real great. He was terrible on both those plays but still, if he wanted to really try and help him he'd have pushed for him to get one more shot I'd imagine. Tebow just can't let it go and a team was like screw it he can have one quick shot because I know him. I don't think it was some grand conspiracy.

No he probably doesn't sell seats on the PS he also doesn't sell any off the team. It doesn't really matter. If he was on the first cut line, they're not bringing him back.

For sure. So many damn kids grow up playing it now. I say it all the time, it will be big here with future generations for sure

1999 called… it wants its post back.

No way . Youth soccer was nothing like that back then, at least not where I'm from. That's how you hook them. Not trying to sell it to adults that never played it followed it

The logic is that he's reached the end of the line. It's over. He's too old. too much position trained (and young) talent / comp for him. If he'd made this switch back whenever he tried baseball - i.e. - somewhere in his mid 20's - then a PS spot would make sense. Not at 34.

Not at all. I'd read that pension possibility back when "why's Myers giving this guy a shot" articles were coming out - and simply mentioned them here. Myers and Tebow are incredibly close - but dont think simply mentioning it (with caveats that I dont know the details) constitutes being hung up on it.

It was over before this and he still took a TC spot. Tebow is an insane person. He'll probably try and play in the NBA next lol

Oh I'm 100% aware that the changing demos are a reason for this.

We're a melting pot and soccer is a global sport naturally and will be for a long long long time because you can play it anywhere whether you're rich or dirt poor. So kids will continue to play it literally everywhere.

I agree - but - if he's not reached pension status - and thats a big if - that could have bearing on possible medical coverage down the line. That could have been an inducement for him. Dont know.

After Brandi Chastain scored the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup and took her shirt off, everyone fell in love with soccer for a brief moment and declared soccer was the next big thing. This has happened multiple times and each time the National novelty of it soon wore off. Soccer in this country is in its youth no question but kids move in from it too. My kids played it but both stopped after Kindergarten bcuz they enjoyed basketball and flag football more.
