Yeah...that's not gonna happen.

And if both the Giants and Mets are sufficiently concerned over his medicals, it shouldn't happen. Last thing we need is to be on the hook for him and Buxton when they both develop Mauer syndrome.

Why not? It's either that or the owners pocket the money. There is risk, this team never takes real risks. Why not? Also, zero, zero, zero, chance this happens.

Sure go for it if the twins had an unlimited budget but 2 teams that can basically spend whatever they want are getting cold feet.

I'd bet good money that he would be one of most hated sports players in Minnesota within 3-4 years

Then the owner pockets the money. That's literally the option almost every year.

I don't care what fans think about CC, these are the same people that though Mauer wasn't all that....I actually don't care what fans think in general.

Maybe I'm thinking too long term. There probably isn't anyone else worthwhile to spend the money on this year but he would prevent them from signing players in the future while not living up to his contract

So…are the Twins increasing their offer, which is essentially adding a year to their reported offer, or are the Mets having second thoughts on their offer, making Minnesota’s 10 year offer the highest available?

I'm pretty sure the Mets are having 2nd thoughts.

It wouldn't surprise if the twins are being used to keep the Mets from going to low on their new offer

They've literally signed one FA player to a real long term deal in the history of the team and he was traded after two years. It isn't happening, for him or others. Do we know he won't live up to his deal? Also, signing him means you don't sign two Joey Gallo types in the future, since prices are only going up..... Does that matter? There is risk, no doubt. There is also risk in doing nothing in the short term.
