SemperFeist
I’d be curious to hear the reasoning behind the willingness to do a 6 yr/$200M contract, a $33.3M AAV, but they reportedly weren’t willing to go higher than $28.5 AAV when they offered the 10 year deal. He might be elite for six years. Might. No way for ten.
swede700
I've never understood why a player would want a significantly long deal anyway, considering they may end up leaving a ton of money on the table. I understand they like the security of the guaranteed deal, but there could be a significant increase in salaries 10 years from now when he's 38 yrs old. Obviously, he's probably not playing shortstop by then, however. A 6-year deal is much more reasonable from both a player and team perspective, because at 34 yrs old then, he still has at least one more shot to get big money for a year or 2 before the decline inevitably begins. Sad People
I dont like baseball and hardly follow it but why am i not excited for this? Why did 2 other teams pass on him? Seems like a total Twins move.
VikeManDan
What does a Twins lineup look like with CC4 back in the fold? Who are some Twins (prospects and MLBers) who could be dealt to strengthen our pitching?

Apparently there is a team option for three years, so he's locked in if healthy and productive. Unless traded, which I assume requires him to waive a no trade clause.... The other teams backed out of much longer deals although I wonder if they were willing to do a 6 year deal
vikesfan89
My question is, did they actually make this offer expecting him to decline it so that they can say that they tried? Although nothing is official until he signs on the dotted line

Some people were suggesting that the last offer wasn't legit because they knew he wouldn't take. They just wanted to show that they were trying
