Championship wknd Mock OffSeason's V.1 & V.2

Took 2 options I felt Gute could go this off season, some may not feel all results are possible but these are my two early off season routes I felt could play out. Keeping in mind TT made his splash off season early on with Woodson & Pickett + some Vet stop gaps, this is the same thought process with one being offensive based & one defensive.

Both are great options & looking to see which y'all would favor. Both options put weapons around #12 to move us closer to a Super Bowl, my choice would be V.1 to load Aaron up & let him run the show. Not a capologist but believe most of these numbers are somewhat accurate. Let me know your thoughts & what option you’d lean towards choosing. Suggestions / comments are welcome.

V.1 Offense Offseason
Extend Jordy 3 yrs @ 8 mil yr (+4.5 cap space)
Cut Bulaga (+4.5 cap space)

Sign & Trade
Cobb to Dolphins + 5th Comp for Jarvis Landry (Signs 4yr @ 14 mil per)

Resign (Cap 29 mil)
Jahari Evans 1yr @ 2 mil
Morgan Burnett 3yrs @ 8 mil
Davon House 1yr @ 4mil

FA Adds (Cap 15 mil)
Jimmy Graham TE 3yrs @ 9.5 mil
Ryan Fitzpatrick QB 2yr @ 2.5 mil
(Remaining Cap 3 mil)

Free agents & trades are brought together to give 12 a boat load a weapons GB hasn’t had since Philbin was running the offense before with Finely. A 3 wide set of Tae, Jordy & Landry with Graham @ TE makes me smile. Keeping the Vets in the secondary allows for continuity where Evans & Fitz give some Vet stability on offense.

Draft
1)Marcus Davenport Edge UTSA
2)Marcell Ateman WR Ok St
3)Mike Hughes CB UCF
3)Troy Fumegalli TE Wisconsin
4)Jack Cichy LB Wisconsin
5)Maea Teuhema G SE Louisiana
5)Andrew Brown DL Virginia
5)Timon Paris OT Stony Brook
6)Siran Neal S Jacksonville St
7)Jake Wienke WR South Dakota St
7)Ebenezer Ogundeko Edge Tennessee St

This draft much like my second one gets us younger in the Front 7. Davenport & Cichy will be impact players with Hughes being the best thing we pulled out of Florida since Mike McKenzie & Josh Sitton. Ateman & Fum give Rodgers additional gadgets when needed & keep the talent supply there for years to come for receivers & oline. Hughes & Davenport are my 2 favorites in this draft class so far prior to Senior Bowl & combine.

Roster

V.2 Defense FA
Extend Jordy 3yrs @ 8 mil (+4.5 cap space)
Cut Bulaga (+4.5 cap space)

Trade
Cobb + 3rd Comp + 7th Comp To Cle for 2nd Rnd Pick #3 (+9.5 cap space)

Resign (Cap 39.5 mil)
Morgan Burnett 3yrs @ 8mil

FA Adds (Cap 31.5)
Trumain Johnson 4yrs @ 14mil
Jordan Matthews 4yrs @ 7mil
Aaron Lynch 2yrs @ 3mil
Ryan Fitzpatrick 2yrs @ 2.5mil
(Remaining Cap 5 mil)

Free Agent group brings much needed Vet Talent Restock in Johnson that our secondary needs, with the pressure guys from the draft we will improve. Matthews is one we all had an eye on when he came out of Vandy, like what he can bring to our offense, Fitz gives us a chance to fight better than Hundley. Lynch is a flyer to see if new scenery will give him some motivation to be an good rotational option.

Draft
1)Marcus Davenport EDGE UTSA
2)Christian Kirk WR TAMU
2)Taven Bryan DL Florida
3)Lorenzo Carter Edge Georgia
4)Troy Fumegalli TE Wisconsin
5)Danny Johnson DB Southern
5)Skyler Phillips G Idaho St
5)Caleb Wilson TE UCLA
5)Timon Paris OT Stony Brook
6)Siran Neal S Jacksonville St
7)Jake Wienke WR South Dakota St

This draft gets us younger in the front 7 with 3 playmakers added. Gives us a couple good options for Aaron to keep him happy & upright. Finally it adds some depth & speed to our secondary.

Packers don't have but the 7th rd comp pick, no normal pick in that round.  Something about the trade to KC for that RB Knile Davis?  Still thinking about the mock, not sure?  Thanks!

Regarding version #1

Restructure Jordy for 3 years, trade Cobb and a pick to get Landry and a $14M salary and then take a WR in the 2nd round to be the 4th WR.

Seems excessive to have Adams at $12M per year, Landry at $14M per year, Nelson at $8M per year.

Rodgers needs a defense more so than he needs a plethora of weapons

It was done on purpose to load up the offense, also signed Graham to a deal. Landry was a swap for Cobb with a little rate increase for more production & a better weapon for 12. The concept of the first was to over stock the offense, because we know some ppl will go down with injury & this gives us depth.

The draft & resigning of players gave us the depth on defense we need, I truly believe that Pettine will get more out of this defense in his first year than what we've seen recently. They will want to impress the "new staff" to earn their place in the pecking order. Don't overlook how huge resigning House & Burnett is then adding Davenport, Hughes & Cichy. Gives us position flexibility & plenty of guys to rush the passer, 3 sack Jack learning from Clay for a few years & playing along side of him will give us a great weapon it's too bad he's coming off that injury otherwise I feel he's late first early 2nd material.

Which is why I put sign & trade there, meaning Miami would sign him then the trade would take place

Why would you trade a draft pick and Cobb for a player who's a free agent?

Why would Miami eat the entirety of Landry's signing bonus for us?

AND PLEASE STOP CUTTING BULAGA TO SIGN RYAN FREAKING FITZPATRICK

So you'll keep a guy that eat's up 10 mil & hardly sees the field? He's getting to the age where this will not only happen more but it will be more of a challenge to get back to his high level of performance.

We drafted Spriggs for a reason. Miami isn't doing a Cobb for Landry swap in a sign & trade so the pick helps even what each team is getting in the trade.

Did i put anything about how the signing bonus was being distributed? Made throttle down on the negative guy, it's just a mock off season.

Let's have 7 under center as the backup next year? I didn't cut Bulaga to role in Fitz I put Fitz in because it's time to move on from 7

Stop.  Getting to the age?  He's 28.  He's missed 27 games, 11 of which came this year.  That's not some insane number of games missed.  He got hurt this year.  It happens.  He got hurt in 2009.  It happens.  You're wrong, and it's a dumb idea.  You don't cut offensive linemen that play like Bulaga does when they're healthy if you're an intelligent GM.  Saying we drafted Spriggs for a reason doesn't help your argument much considering Bulaga can absolutely play guard, and you don't cut players just because you have another good player at that position.

Also, Randall Cobb isn't getting traded.  It doesn't save us any money.  Landry is a free agent.  He's definitely not getting traded.  Because this isn't the NBA.

Bulaga on the field eats up 8.35 mil. Bulaga cut eats up 3.2 mil. You're not cutting Bulaga for 10 mil, you're cutting Bulaga for 5 mil.

Why do you do a sign and trade when you can sign Landry straight up? You're giving away a draft pick for no reason.

And no, when you trade a player, it has the same ramifications of cutting the player. Every dollar of Landry's signing bonus would accelerate and slam onto the Dolphin's cap this season if they were to trade Landry. This is the primary reason that sign and trades don't happen in the NFL. You can distribute the signing bonus however you damn well please, it doesn't matter if you trade him.

You'd rather pay Fitzpatrick than Bulaga is what the money is coming down to in both of these seasons.

You're saying you don't want to pay a 28 year old tackle because he's too old, but do want to pay a 35 year old QB?

There's no such thing as sign and trades in the NFL, I would assume this is a franchise and trade. However isn't there a rule where the first year of the new deal a traded franchised player signs must equal the tag amount?

Either way, don't see a Cobb trade happening for anything other than a guy who's in the same boat with another team. We have no leverage.

Was putting an idea out there that hadn't been posted before with the Landry for Cobb piece. I also didn't put this in place to "save us money" I did it to boost the on the field talent @ WR, which we need. Giving up the draft pick "puts Cobb + pick = to receiving Landry or thereabouts"

Pretty certain contract terms can be written creatively to allow destination team absorb what they need to, all depends on how it's written. You don't think the Dolphins would want some sort of security if they knew Landry didn't want to be there any longer? Getting Cobb back assures that, so in the realm of possibilities it can happen, the likely hood however small doesn't matter, why? Because it's a made up mock offseason.

A backups age isn't as crucial as a starters, we all know that especially for a QB. A vet QB also knows how to step in & give us a fighting chance vs a window licker like 7 trying to piece it all together & just not getting it done.

If you look at the mock I did I had the numbers as close to accurate as possible, it's actually around 4.5 we save if we cut Bulaga, I rounded up to 10 because I can for talk sake in a conversation for his overall comp.

I'd rather allow Spriggs to grow into his position & develop into what Bulaga has been. I'd also put my money on a backup QB that's been there to succeed when we need him to, hoping he's not at all needed but it's what keeps us winning games we lost this year rather than rolling the dice with 7.
