The Vikings have most of their draft class under contract.

They selected six players during last month’s draft and announced on Friday that they have signed four of them. Third-rounder Mekhi Blackmon was the highest of those picks. Fourth-round safety Jay Ward, fifth-round defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy, and fifth-round quarterback Jaren Hall also signed on Friday.

Vikings first-round pick Jordan Addison  transferred to USC last year, but he has not signed yet. Seventh-round running back Dwayne McBride is the other unsigned pick.

With that in mind, it makes sense for teams hoping to catch up to the elite offenses to make defensive investments. That’s why we produced our 2023 NFL defense rankings.

26) Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are slated to improve defensively, but not enormously. They revamped their secondary, which helps, but the turnover they’ve had makes them difficult to project. Losing Za’Darius Smith deals a pretty big blow to their hopes, but they’ve improved overall. Where they’re coming from wasn’t that great to begin with, though.

Now that teams can have alternate helmets, are the Vikes dusting off the deep purple, high glass helmets with the extra large horns???  That's my favorite helmet of all time!

We could use the 70s uniform again and it would make sense!

The Vikings have added a receiver from the XFL. Minnesota announced on Tuesday that the club has signed Dontavian “Lucky” Jackson.

Jackson played for the D.C. Defenders this year, making 36 catches for 572 yards with five touchdowns. After playing his college ball at Western Kentucky, Jackson also played in The Spring League and the CFL in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

As a corresponding move, the Vikings waived edge rusher Kenny Willekes. A seventh-round pick in 2020, Willekes missed all of the 2020 and 2022 seasons due to injury. But he recorded 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and seven QB hits in six games for Minnesota in 2021.

That's too bad for Willekes, but certainly not surprising, as he just could never stay healthy...and I don't believe was ever a fit for the 3-4 anyway.

Lucky was a Hilltopper who caught passes in college from our Jets' nemesis last year, Mike White and also played there at the same time as Forrest Lamp, George Fant and Tyler Higbee.

After taking over as the general manager of the Minnesota Vikings in January of 2022, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has slowly been shaping the front office in his image. The latest example of this came on Tuesday when they parted ways with director of football quantitative methods and pro scout Scott Kuhn.

Kuhn was brought to the team with Rick Spielman back in 2007 as one of his first hires and has been with the team in multiple roles. He was named director of analytics in June of 2016 and held the role until he was let go this week.

Let Kwesi Cook.
