It probably is common knowledge but when I'm in these workbooks, I"m not even looking at the names most of the time and just basing everything off OTC.  Which has him on their roster for the next 3 seasons.  The way the contract ext. was created it accounted for the original signing bonuses, just like any other extension.

He's on their roster for the next 3 years because they are prorating his bonus from his last contract. But he's not signed for 3 or actually any more years. In this mock, they've apparently extended him but he should count at an additional 6 mil per year in 2018-2020 from the bonus from his last contract.

Contract Notes

Drew Brees signed a one year contract extension worth $24.25 million, all of which is guaranteed, on September 7, 2016 with the Saints. Brees, who had been scheduled to earn $20 million in 2016 will now earn $31.25 million, including a $30 million signing bonus per Andrew Brandt. The contract contains three voidable contract years to prorate the signing bonus. The new contract reduces Brees cap number from $30 million to $17.25 million in 2016.  Brees has a no trade clause and can not be franchise tagged when his contract voids. If the contract voids and Brees is not extended the Saints will carry a dead money charge of $18 million in 2019 for Brees. The deadline for the void is the final day of the 2017 league year.

FREE AGENCY NEWS _ Provided by InSideTheLocKer.

The last few days has been a wild showing of some of the league's biggest payout ever in the history of the NFL-TCMD.

We knew that Nate Solder was going to get big money as he was really the only tackle worth targeting this early, but the question begs, did that massive payday set the market?

Over the last couple days, we've seen an influx of team's starting to target scheme specific players leading us to believe that even more players could be signed in the coming days than in the last week.  Over 70% of the league is going to be happy with their player agents as of now, but things change around here quickly.

To everyone's amazement, Drew Brees has confirmed that he will remain a Saint after extending his contract to play out another 3 years.  We attempted to get more information on this but both the League Office and the Saints front office is hush hush on the matter...Many believe it was the Russians played a hand in this, but we here at ISL think it was the best thing for Brees.

For whatever reason Malcolm Butler flew under the radar, landing a starting gig in New York.  The benching during the super bowl, left a horrible taste in his mouth and agreeing to a contract with the 2-0 Champs was a sour but sweet revenge.

Andrew Norwell considered one of if not the best guard in the league just agreed to a long term deal after being tagged by Carolina.

Demarcus Lawrence also get a long term deal worked out after the tag.....Quarterbacks in the East as calling GM's seeking Oline in the draft.

Kirk Cousins as well as AJ McCarron will be playing their years in Denver, allowing them to trade down in the draft with Oakland....Offensive line issues have us thinking that's their target position in this draft but they have other needs as well.

Kyle Fuller was another heavily paid player that Houston acquired.

After a solid performance from the revived first round pick Jonathan Cooper received a contract to play for the Jaguars....Good fit.

Teddy Bridgewater remains in Minnesota foregoing Case Keenum's production last season.

Nigel Bradham was given the transition tag and the hook caught a fish when the Giants stepped up and made a lucrative offer, forcing the Eagles to rethink their game plan moving forward.

Few notes on the Solder contract relative to other OT

Tyron Smith was highest in total contract value at $97M over 8 years

Trent Williams was the highest per year contract at $13M/year over 5 years

Trent Williams was highest in guaranteed at signing with $30M

Trent Williams also had the highest in "practical guarantees" (over the length of the contract) at $42.25M

The Nate Solder contract more than doubled the total value, average per year and practical guarantees.

FREE AGENT NEWS UPDATE

After last weeks signings, teams have quickly figured out that shoving money into the future is not the best approach as we're seeing more moderately structured contracts and those contracts are perfectly fine with the agents as an expected 70 players are preparing to sign new contracts tonight.

SEAHAWKS POSITION CHANGES (WILL REFLECT ON DEPTH CHART):

C Mitch Morse -> LG

New position for the very athletic offensive lineman. When healthy, has shown the type of play I feel can transition to any position in the interior. Was an anchor for the Chiefs, their outright best lineman in 2016 and reason why they moved on from Rodney Hudson a few years ago. Moving because his former college teammate Justin Britt is only good at C. Reunited with him to solidify the left side of the Hawks line.

C Ethan Pocic -> RG

Played exclusively at RG towards the end of last season. Showed flashes but also carries play strength and anchor concerns. Looking to add competition, perhaps best suited as prime depth for all interior positions.

RUMORS

- The Bills are going to be aggressive in climbing the draft board for a QB and I have a feeling I know which one they covet and it won't be the butcher or the candlestick maker.

-Despite having like a billion dollars, the Jets spent nothing in Round 1. I wonder if they will wake up in Round 2 and try to get some players.

-Dolphins are eying Marquies Lee to fill the void left by Jarvis Landry.

- Patriots are looking at OT and DL as their primary needs to fill going forward.

 - The Ravens are going to be very aggressive in the WR market this round.

- I'm hearing the Browns will put in an offer for Case Keenum in this round in hopes of pairing him with Sequan Barkley

-Steelers looking for a reunion with Lawrence Timmons this round

-Bengals are also looking hard at the WR market after still confusingly trading AJ Green

-Colts looking to make it rain this round

-Jaguars top target is TE this round and Austin Sefarian Jenkins is the apple of their eye

-The Titans will put in a heavy offer on a former Jaguars WR this round

-After the Jags stole AJ Boyue in FA last year the Texans are looking to return the favor with Aaron Colvin this round.

-The Broncos will be Center hunting after losing theirs to RFA

-The Chiefs are looking for youth on defense and are willing to give a chance to troubled rusher Aaron Lynch

- The Raiders traded Bruce Irvin to open up cap room for a heavy push to acquire Kenny Vaccaro

-The Chargers will be bidding for defense hard in this round
