No. It was about the transition tag.

There were $35M amounts thrown around, which would be franchise tag monies.

That said, the transition tag discussion is completely nonsensical. What, do we think the Redskins would actually match the tendered contract and $50M+ against the cap for two quarterbacks? It wouldn't happen.

Technically we have not paid Alex Smith a thing until the new season starts in March. We absolutely could pull some shady stuff and back out of our deal and match an offer made by a team. The trade will not be final for over a month.

And then no one would ever trade with the Redskins ever again.  That will never happen.

Likewise, why would any player or agent ever trust any Redskins contract offer if they reneged on Smith's extension?

Thank you.  Cousins is heading for unrestricted free agency.  Anyone thinking otherwise is going to be gravely disappointed.

I love how everyone is always like, well we have to have a wait and see approach before you can get upset.  And then when we actually see its always so much worse.

Because some either don't bother to examine trends, study history, or both?

Or trade Cousins last offseason?

1)  The Pats (to me) were already in a limbo with Jimmy Grap and Briskett. Tom didn't want those guys to be the future and knew where they're values were at the time and that's why they were traded to the teams they were traded to. Kirk signed that franchise contract in the hopes of resigning with the Skins for a LTD, but it cost the Redskins too much money which makes sense. So Redskins must of had way out their options, just to see what is available for them meaning: (The Front Office aka Bruce Allen and Danny Boy). So thus, Alex Smith was a trade block from 6 six different teams who wanted him and it so just to happen that Redskins had a better deal then all of them.

Did you listen to the interview Cousins had at that charity event a few weeks ago?  He said that he signed the Franchise Tag immediately last year and didn't even discuss a LTD with Washington last year because the offense was in flux and he wasn't sure what it was going to look like post Sean McVay and losing his top 2 WRs.  So the Redskins had a QB that was refusing to even discuss a LTD deal with them, they should have traded him immediately and started over.

People have posted both.  Like they think our front office is so smart they found some miracle loop hole.  No one is going to trade for Cousins when they know we can't sign him.

Had they not traded for Smith the transition tag trade option was actually a viable solution because they could just match whatever offer another team made. Now it's bunk. It was so absurdly stupid on so many different levels to make this trade. If this were the Patriots they would've ended up with a first for Kirk, kept Kendall Fuller, drafted Kirks replacement and then used the money to continue on with their dynasty. We, on the other hand botch it about as badly as you can because we have an idiot running the team.

The Pats traded Garappolo because they aren't benching the GOAT. This idea that Brady was petrified of inferior prospects is so laughable to me.
