Just the draft, no other stuff this time.

#14.  Vita Vea  DL  Washington  (Beast, can play all DL positions.  Just think Daniels/Vea/Clark with Adams and Lowry rotating.)

#45.  Uchenna Nwosu  Edge  USC  (Natural leader, former S that can do everything.)

#76.  Sam Hubbard  Edge  Ohio St.  (Elite pass rusher that can cover as well.)

Comp.  Levi Wallace  CB  Alabama  (Exceptional cover corner.)

#110.  Equanimeous St. Brown  WR  Notre Dame  (Screams Packer to me.  Deep speed and excellent route runner.)

#141.  Hayden Hurst  TE  S. Carolina  (Team leader, fierce competitor, reliable pass catcher and willing blocker.)

Comp.  James Daniels  C/G  Iowa

Comp.  J.C. Jackson  CB  Maryland

Comp.  John Kelly  RB  Tennessee

#172.  Jester Weah  WR  Pitt

#213  Austin Corbett  OL  Nevada  (Can play all 5 OL positions.)

Comp.  Tony Brown  CB  Alabama  (ST's ace that can also help out in the backfield.)

Unless you think Vea is Haloti Ngata, what's the point? The Edge Rush is still going to be punchless and the CB rotation is still going to struggle.

The DL was the best performing unit on the team last year.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.  I don't see him as a Haloti Ngata-level of talent.

I know we are all beating the drum for a pass rusher, as I am as well. But you still gotta stick to the board and what's given to you. Championship teams pick usually BPA to a point. Now if Vea is on our board say rated the 5th best player and we grab theoretically the 20th best player just because he's a pass rusher, I don't think in the long run that's how you win championships. Please Packerforum let's not forget we have a new sheriff in town that I assume is going to dabble in free agency this year. If we grab a rusher there, and get 2 rushers in the 2nd and 3rd rounds I'd be ok with it. Vea let's not forget actually got his fair share of qb sacks at the college level (so did BJ Raji). But I don't think you can ever have too many bigs and rotate them. Plus I'm not nearly as sold on Dean Lowry as others on here are. I think we definitely can improve there.

Haven't watched him but I feel like I've heard that exact comparison multiples times (including Daniel Jeremiah - point being it's not just randos on the web but people with SOME credentials). FWIW PFF has him at 4th for pressures from an internal lineman last year.

Regardless, lets say we take Vea - between Vea, Clark, Daniels - doesn't that open up what Pettine can do? Like if we can confidently use those 3 to occupy 5 OL - doesn't that mean that Clay, Perry, and a bevy of blitzes should be able to provide the pressure?

Just not sure how Vea sits at 5th on your board

Vea and Dean don't play the same spot on the line though. Dean is ideally a dime rusher, Vea is a base block eater. Unless you think Clark needs to be spelled more often I don't think Vea improves much for us...

Is Lowry not your least favorite player on the team?

This draft is ideal for me.  Lowry off the field, and a good pass rusher round 2. How anyone can complain about this mock I do not know.

Just my thoughts, other than Chubb no EDGE is worth the risk at 14. Not sure Ward, Jackson fit in that 14 slot either.

This is almost best case scenario. Love it.

Lowry and Vea don't play the same position. Even if Vea is an astronomical home run pick, is the upgrade from Kenny Clark to Haloti Ngata going to change this defense? This team needs pass rushers, Lowry needs to be replaced in the pressure package by a pass rusher, not a NT.

Couldn’t Clark take on that role or Daniels?

If it's 3rd and 15, would you rather have Kenny Clark or a pass rush specialist on the field. Neither Clark nor Daniels are stand out pressure guys or pass rush specialists. Line of scrimmage squatters can be found anywhere, and truthfully that's likely Vea's destiny in the NFL.

There's about 2000 defensive line snaps available on this team next year. Assuming good health for Clark and Daniels, 1300 of them will be taken up. You'll add on about 180 snaps of 3-DL looks. Plus 300 snaps of backup duty. The remainder of those reps will be pressure package looks that should be taken away from this group and given to the OLB rotation. Those 480 snaps should be snapped up by DL on cheap deals like Lowry, Adams, and Dial.

Please reread what I said, I stated say if he did meaning, if Joe Blow is ranked fifth on your big board and you pick 14th you'd probably grab him.  I never said I or anybody had Vae rated fifth.

No I think Lowry is one of the guys on this team that has to play less snaps for the overall defense to get better or he needs to continually improve. To me he's just a guy. No I'd take quite a few players over Vae. I don't think he'd be the worst pick, but I think for this team we could definitely do better. But could you imagine Vae, Daniels, and Clark lined up across the board on first and 2nd downs?

I get it. Just suprised you of all people don’t like this.

Lowry played significant snaps. Regardless Vea helps everyone’s work load. We all want a stud pass rusher, not sure any are there though.
