Krauser
Cordarrelle Patterson still dominating as a kick returner. When the Vikings drafted him, I compared Patterson’s style of runnning as a ball carrier to Sayers, not surprised he’s been that successful.. Cordarrelle also has the highest yards per carry average in NFL history, minimum 50 carries.
swede700
It's just unfortunate that he could never learn how to run a route on a consistent basis.

Somewhat misleading because of the change to the touchback rule a few years back. If he catches the kickoff 7 yards deep and returns it 30 yards, it's still a net negative compared to a touchback. Obviously the Patriots would be one of the least-worried teams about a couple yards lost, but it's still the fact of the situation. Yardage averages are also greatly helped by his 6 career kick returns for TDs....tied for 3rd in NFL history.
Krauser
It's not misleading. The ball is still kicked from a line of scrimmage where the coverage team lines up, and he catches it wherever it's kicked to, and he returns it while the coverage unit runs downfield and tries to tackle him. The question of how far he can return the ball if he catches a 68 yard kickoff isn't affected much by him starting 3 yards deep in the end zone vs on the 2 yard line. If anything, kickoff return averages should be down since kickoffs were moved up to the 35, and touchbacks out to the 25, as it's easier to kick the ball high and short of the end zone, allowing the coverage team to get closer to the returner and stop him before he gets out to the touchback line. Patterson's 6 career kick return TDs aren't just helping his average, they're a strong indication he's an elite returner. The only players with more than 6 TDs had way more return opportunities: Josh Cribbs had 8 TDs on 426 returns, and Leon Washington 8 TDs on 292. Patterson has 6 return TDs on only 164 opportunities, which is over double the rate that Cribbs scored at, and about 50% higher TD% than Washington. That rate is higher than all the modern players he's tied with with 6 return TDs, though it is behind Sayers, who scored 6 times on only 91 attempts. On the field? It’s going to take a while for the Giants to turn things around. But things should get a lot better once they finally get rid of Manning. Off the field? I think he’s done a very good job. The Odel situation over the summer, and so far this season, could have been a disaster for a new coach, but Shurmur has handled it very well. I think the situation there has always been more about the players in the locker-room being a bad mix than it ever was about the coach...although I do think Shurmur is doing a better job of handling it than that other joker. Now, if they could only get Eli out of there, it'd be better...since he's never been a true leader...and that room needs one. SemperFeist
I will never understand why the Giants chose a running back over one of the quarterbacks.

Most definitely! If we've learned anything from AP, it's that you can't build a current NFL offense around a RB. Now, 30 years ago you could. vike daddy
On Sunday against the Giants, Washington running back Adrian Peterson raced around the right end of the line and ran down the sideline for a 64-yard touchdown. It was the 33-year-old Peterson’s longest touchdown run since 2015, and it was the longest run a player his age has had in a very, very long time. According to the NFL, the last time a player older than Peterson ran for a touchdown 60 yards or longer was in 1921. The player was Jim Thorpe, who was 34 years old when he ran for an 80-yard touchdown for the Cleveland Indians against the Columbus Panhandles. Peterson has 127 carries for 587 yards and four touchdowns, and another nine catches for 151 yards and a touchdown, through seven games this season. He’s far exceeding what anyone could have expected at the age of 33. And doing things that haven’t been done since the days of leather helmets. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/10/29/adrian-peterson-oldest-player-with-a-60-yard-touchdown-run-since-jim-thorpe/

Guest
I will offer my theory on Peterson...he's not a human being...he's some sort of mutant from a thousand years into the future! However, another explanation might be that he's just really, really good!
vike daddy
Former Bears coach Marc Trestman, a surprise hire when he was plucked from the Montreal Alouettes post-Lovie Smith, won a Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts in 2017. Trestman is now out of a job. The Argonauts have announced that Trestman has been relieved of his duties. That’s a rare accomplishment for any coach, going from top of the mountain to out the door in only one year. But the Argos imploded in 2018, chasing their championship with a 4-14 free fall punctuated by a loss last week to the equally awful Alouettes, now quarterbacked by Johnny Manziel. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/11/03/marc-trestman-gets-fired-less-than-a-year-after-winning-a-cfl-championship/ former VIkings assistant coach, who Bud Grant was very supportive of in getting hired by the Bears.
