Is that how the NYG trade eventually went down? is that how we ended up with Cuozzo?

Not exactly, but yes, that did create the impetus for the trade to the Giants.  However, the day before they traded Tarkenton to the Giants, the Saints traded for Cuozzo from the Colts.  It was a year later that the Vikings traded for Cuozzo.  In the '67 draft, with the pick from the Giants, they ended up taking some dude Clint Smith instead of Spurrier or Griese, who went with the next 2 picks (49ers and Dolphins).

Somewhat ironically, the day after this article, Van Brocklin resigned.  Bud wasn't hired until 3 days after they traded Fran.

And Bud knew this crazy QB who played for the BC Lions and convinced the front office to take a chance.  His name?  Joe Kapp...the same Joe Kapp that attracted me to become a Vikings fan!  He didn't have a lot of talent, but he had a winner's outook, a strong will and determination, and toughness that measured off the scale.  He was fun, and the Yin to Grant's Yang.

No. 1 Worst Trade in NY Giants History: Fran Tarkenton back to Minnesota

The NY Giants made an ill-advised decision in trading Fran Tarkenton back to the Vikings in 1972. In four seasons with New York, Tarkenton earned three Pro bowl honors during his time but failed to make the playoffs.

Tarkenton was sent back to Minnesota in ’72 in exchange mainly for Norm Snead at quarterback and Brad Van Pelt at linebacker. Snead was a total bust at QB while Van Pelt went on to earn 5 Pro Bowls, one All-Pro with the Giants before being inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.

However, Tarkenton experienced terrific success back in Minnesota. He’d win an NFL MVP award, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, two All-Pro appearances, three more Pro Bowl seasons, and also led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns one apiece to end his career with the Vikes. On top of that, Tarkenton led his team to three Super Bowl appearances. Although he never won one, it’s a remarkable accomplishment nonetheless.

Gary Kubiak spent eight seasons as the Texans’ head coach, six of those coaching new Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans. Kubiak’s son, Klint, could join Ryans’ staff as an assistant coach with the Texans.

John McClain of Gallery Sports reports the Texans are working on a deal to hire Klint Kubiak as run game coordinator.

No. He wasn’t on the team when they won the Super Bowl

Yep...Generally, you have to be on the team/practice squad/IR to receive a ring, but there are other instances where a team may still give a guy a ring even though he's not on the roster in any capacity when they actually win the Super Bowl.
