bruceb
Apparently the opposition has learned that our batters cannot hit or lay off sliders. So what does this say about Ty Van Burkleo? And what in the hell qualifies him to be a hitting coach? Certainly not his "success" as a player: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vanbuty01.shtml Edited July 26, 2019 by bruceb grammar

He does have a positive WAR for his career. (0.1) This is a really lousy time to mention that I have been a HS teacher for over 25 years.

Quote In 1997, he began his coaching career with the High Desert Mavericks, an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate.[7] In 2001, he found himself working for the Angels again, as the minor league hitting coordinator.[8] He left the Angels at the end of the 2006 season.[9] For the 2007–2008 seasons, Van Burkleo was the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics.[10][11] In 2009, he was signed by the Mariners to be the bench coach to manager Don Wakamatsu.[10] The following year, he was hired by the Astros to be the minor league hitting coordinator.[12][13] On August 19, 2012, Van Burkleo was named the interim hitting coach for the Houston Astros.[14][15] He was named hitting coach of the Cleveland Indians on October 31, 2012, beginning with the 2013 season.[16] He was also the hitting coach when Ramirez and Lindor came up and became superstars. I always struggle to blame the coaches when their is coaching continuity and player discontinuity.

Sometimes qualifications aren’t all that important. Some guys just understand it.

brooks1957
Both Tribe and Minnesota win last night - still 2 game deficit; but the Tribe is stretching their wild card lead. That is now at 3-1/2 games over Oakland/TampaBay (tied for 2nd WC spot). I will be glad when we are done with the Royals. Out of all the "cellar dweller" teams we face, Kansas City scares me the most. They are going to be really good in a couple of years. Hunter Dozier has been a pain our our rear the last month and Bubba Starling is really coming into his own. Plus they get Salvador Perez back next season. Look out. bruceb
It must suck (hehe) to be MN right now. Scoreboard watching has to be demoralizing.

brooks1957
They choked again in Chicago - losing 5-1 to the Pale Hose. Tribe up 9-1 on the Royals with 2 out in the bottom of the ninth. Divisional deficit will be down to a SINGLE GAME. Final in KC - 9-1 Edited July 28, 2019 by brooks1957
