Why would anyone want to over pay players when good managed teams build in the draft and add small pieces to the puzzle just like New England has done all those years. Just because Suh was a beast coming out of college doesn't mean a team needs to over pay for his services now. It just handcuffs a team down the road to resign their own talented players . I see the Cowboys either drafting an (OG/OT) @ 19TH Isiah Wynn, Will Hernandez or Kolton Miller and cheaply adding back up depth in free agency. Hankins could be a cheap option to be a 1-tech and let Collins move back to his 3-tech spot and freeing up space so the defensive ends can get to the QB. Cowboy fans can hate the way Stephen Jones is going about free agency the last few years but when you get burned for 50 mil. on a CB that never lived up to that value you can see that sometimes free agency is over rated.

Here are lists, not complete for Philly, this is only what they did on March, we know all about Foles, Long, Blount, Elliott, Darby, Ajayi, etc that were added later.

But look at the moves and the deals. A lot of 1 year deals offered with the idea that if they perform to their potential, they will get extensions.

In short, the days of building thru the draft are DEAD! It simply takes too long to develop these kids to reach their potential. 3-5 years. By that point they have either outplayed their rookie contracts or have been labeled busts. If it is the first option, now you have to reward them with big paydays, which ALWAYS bites us in the arse.

If it is the latter, they go elsewhere and win there: See M. Bennett, D Ware (thou not a bust, couldn't win here) and a host of others I'm sure.

No, the new NFL formula for winning is get an accurate, smart QB that protects the ball and executes with efficiency, surround him with already proven players via FA on short contracts so you can sign them all, keep your game plan simple and execute.

It makes perfect sense. What is more likely to happen, a bunch of rookies coming in an acclimating to the game right away to the point of contention OR signing a bunch of proven players on bad teams to come together and work, like mercenaries, to get a trophy? When it comes down to it, you are asking a bunch of rookies and 1-2 year p[layers beat a bunch of proven veterans. Not very likely.

Want proof? We invested 4 first round picks on our O line and signed a former 1st round in J. Cooper. We lost one, ONE damn player and gave up 6 sacks to one guy in one game?????

We couldn't do ish!!!! Without just ONE of our missing O linemen.

The Iggles lost the same position and won the frickin SB with a back up QB!!!!!

The problem, by the time we got all of our O line players up to speed and acclimated to the game, T Smith is beginning to wear down because it took several years to acquire the talent we have and build them up to a dominant O line. They will begin to fall like dominoes. Next it will be Fredricks getting nicked up and missing time then Martin, by then Smith will be done. and we start all over.

The new NFL, Get a solid LT, protect your blind side, get a solid back up behind him, draft 1 more O lineman that is too good a prospect to pass up and sign the others by FA or trades from proven teams. They are road tested, proven winners, know the riggers of the game and can come right in and compete.

So with all this in mind, the Jones's are on vacation.

Tells you all you need to know.

You know McClay is basically the the one who scouts and digs through the players right? Jerry and Steohen sign off but McClay is Director of Personnel.

Not buying it. The failed direction still comes from Joan Rivers herself.

Still, though, the title of GM rests with Jones. And to be on vacation - no matter how connected or how empowered his lieutenants are - is a bad look.

Pretty much shows ignorance and content with the current state of the team

The Eagles will soon be in the same boat as the Cowboy's soon if they keep throwing money around freely because when you release players it still counts as dead money to the cap.If you draft wisely and your scouts do their jobs and if you can be consistent drafting talent it shouldn't take 5 years for the 1st, 2nd and possibly 3rd rounder's to develop. They already dismantled the dead weight in the secondary and so far it looks like they did a good job there lets do the same thing to the line backer and defensive line corps. Hey I feel the same way to when you see all the other teams making big splashes in free agency and our team staying put but in all reality sometimes free agency isn't what it's all cracked up to be. Why go in debt and have a player lost to injury and you gave them 20 mil. in guaranteed money , it's a crap shoot anymore. I would rather the Cowboy's get 1 or 2 good character players who have good playing history with little injuries in the past and get 2 or 3 studs in the draft. That's why free agency was developed  to build a team of high paid players and your handcuffed down the road that you can't resign your own stars. If the Cowboys knew that Free was going to retire the Cowboy's probably would of extended Leary's contract and who knows what would of happened last year. It only takes on spoke in the wheel to fall out of place and every thing starts to fall out of place. The one thing that has killed this Dallas team since the 90's is the lack of quality depth at key positions. Every team needs the lunch pail style type players to help the teams gel together. It's now time for the Cowboy's to find key studs in their drafts to add more quality players , we don't need any more Chaz Green type players.

Still some upper tier names available, but we're definitely getting into low end, who is that? free agents who are in the Dallas wheelhouse. Should be some amazing signings this week.

Safety is the one that sticks out with Reid, Vaccaro, Burnett, and Boston. There must be a huge gap between how those guys value themselves and how teams do. Honey Badger going for so little illustrates this.

Some solid DTs too. I’m sure we think we’re fine with Irving, Collins, Ash, Price, and some 7th rounder though.

Jon Bostic would be ok as a 3rd LB. Waddle and Fleming would be upgrades at swing tackle, but so would almost anyone.

On a different note, I think we’re out of options to upgrade Cooper at LG besides the draft. I highly doubt our FO views Pouncey or Mewhort as worth their asking prices given their health risks.

I would agree with you say for one thing, the Iggles were 9 million over the cap and they just upgraded their D line big time.

Don't know how with them having no money. But Bennet and Nata are only going to make Cox and Jernigan that much better.

I also have a feeling they are not done.
