Colts return to the Tampa 2?

Chris Ballard has comfirned that the Colts are switching to a 4-3 defense and running with Matt Eberflus as DC despite McDaniels not takiing the Head Coachimg job. How is that going to look?

Colts new Def Coordinator Matt Eberflus got his start with Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli learning and running the Tampa 2 defense. Of course, Kiffin and Marinelli learned the Tampa 2 from former Colts HC Tony Dungy. He did have some experience in the 3-4 as well but it’s obvious he’s more comfortable with the 4-3 which the Cowboys currently run.

First, I think the Colts defensive FA additions last year included players who are interchangeable in 3-4 and 4-3. Jabaal Sheard, John Simon and Barkevious Mingo are not true pass rushers. Sheard is a run stuffer, Simon is a edge setter/cover guy and Mingo is a high motor player. Jon Bostic has experience as a MLB in both a 3-4 or a 4-3.

Al Woods is best suited as a 3-4 NT.

Bostic, Woods and Mingo are all FAs.

Front 7

LE - Jabaal Sheard / Terrell Basham

UT - Henry Anderson / Hasan Ridgeway

NT - Jon Hankins / Grover Stewart

RE - (Bradley Chubb) / John Simon / Basham

WLB - Antonio Morrison / Jeremiah George

MLB - Anthony Walker

SLB - John Simon

We need more LB depth for sure and that doesn’t even begin to address the secondary.
