I still think Clay is going to the Hall of Fame for what it's worth.  Not first ballot, not necessarily because he earned it, but because he's a high profile player who has the stats and the rings.

So that's definitely not true.  But we should definitely trade for Thomas.

Worst-ranked teams for potential deadline trade:

Raiders:

No on account of no.

Texans:

Clowney - Last year of contract.  First round pick?
Mercilus - Signed for two more years, probably wants a new contract.

Cardinals:

Markus Golden - Last year of contract.  Cardinals rebuilding.  Second round pick?

Seahawks:

No on account of conference rivals.

49ers:

No on account of their guys they probably see as building blocks for their active building process.

Giants:

Connor Barwin is a possibility since he's a year-to-year guy that is high character and wants to play for contender and the Giants might acquiesce his request to get off a doomed ship.

Bills:

Alexander - Old, but may be available if the Bills are out of contention.
Hughes - He was a disappointment for the Colts, then a disappointment after his second year with Buffalo.
Lawson - Disappointing first round pick, plus the Bills have a lot of pass rushers (Including signing Trent Murphy in FA).
Orchard - Managed 5 sacks in three years for the Browns.  Probably not good, but still an upgrade.

barwin & orchard probably arent options since the packers have already passed them over while they were available in FA...

the 1 thing I really wonder is what our FO truly thinks of the OLB group right now. outside of Gilbert, I cant imagine they feel good about the overall production/talent

our most efficient blitz package right now has been from a double inside corner combo rush.

That the starters are two of the most overpaid OLBers in the NFL given their meager production/injury histories?

That Gilbert is a try hard guy who is fine ... as a fourth or fifth OLBer?

That Brady Poppinga's chances of being on the Packers' 2019 roster are just as high as Kyler Fackrell's?

That they cannot believe both the premiere positions on defense (CB & OLB) were so completely bereft of talent going into 2018?

Right now the OLBers are on pace for 7.5 sacks combined (would be 12.5 if Clay had not been robbed in D.C. last Sunday).

Signing Breeland was great. Trading for Thomas would be awesome.

But unless our OLBs show a pulse at some point it is not going to matter in the end and the D will continue to perform as it has for lo these many years.

I'd take Bruce Irvin off Oakland for a mid round pick in a heartbeat.
