If we trade it away we can't address that until the 2nd round where there's little chance to find a stud. Which is better, Peters + a 2nd round pass rusher or Landry/Davenport (on the cheap for 5 years) + a 2nd round corner? Peters + a 2nd round pass rush. Arthur Penske
14 and a 3rd for a guy a team’s looking to get rid of for behavior issues and will need a big contract soon? No way, you want a crack that 5 year rookie contract.
skibrett15
If pernell mcphee is cut, that's a FA OLB you would want to take a long look at.

He's not signing a big contract this time, he won't factor into compensatory consideration if cut, and he'd be the best depth player we've had there in a long time. Shanedorf
McPhee vs Biegel for OLB # 4 or 5 ? He's had some injury issues and there are questions about his cranial capacity. But he has skills McPhee played 25 % of snaps in 2016 ( 9 games) and 35 % in 2017 ( 13 games) - not sure if that was injury-related or just part of the rotation "Pernell McPhee is unlikely to be back with the Bears unless he accepts a pay cut, Jeff Dickerson writes. The outside linebacker has been plagued by knee problems since joining Chicago in 2015 and the team can save $7.075MM by cutting him with just $1MM in dead money. A revised deal makes more sense, Dickerson argues, since the team needs him for keeping the locker room in check."

He shouldn't be counted on for anything. As far as I see it, we have CMIII, Perry, a UFA in Brooks and 4 guys coming back on reserve/future deals in Fackrell, Biegel, Odom and Gilbert. Of those 4 Gilbert looked by far the best.

Why does the rookie pass rusher and corner only get 1 year to develop? Is GB going all in now?

Apex
Peters offers instant excellence at his position. The draft picks will need at least some development, generally they all do. And yes going after a talent like Peters, who in a couple of years is going to get a huge contract, is a going for it this season and the next. Rodgers looming contract plays a part in this line of thinking as well.
