Tyson Jr
Man will gholston such a disappointment. Every year during interviews players are saying how mean he is or how they wouldn't want to fight gholston. He gets paid like an above average player then goes out and provides the team with exactly 0 sacks...

And Gholston didn't play third downs, so he had less chances to actually rush the QB. I agree we could stand to upgrade both guys. But with who? I don't see anyone out there that can. And money isn't an issue. So I don't see the need to create more holes than we already have. Honestly it wouldn’t take much to upgrade 2.5 sacks from 3 guy’s total. Yeah but you know we need to get after the qb more than we have been. There's a reason o tackles and d ends get paid big money. Stopping a pass rusher and getting sacks are so important to winning games. I didn't even see much of the pocket breaking down and the qb under duress. We need to get better on the d line. Licht has a huge task.

Our pass rush is so bad that we played Beckwith at OLB when we ran 3/4. ? That's scraping the bottom of the barrel. There just needs to be viable upgrades before we start letting people go. And if we do bring in that Arizona coach, maybe Gholston stays to play 5-tech in our 3/4 alignments. Maybe Ayers gets a chance to stand up and rush. All I know is we HAVE to change something. If we can't change the personnel, we MUST change the schemes/play calling/alignments/etc.
ravishingone
I hope Ayers returns. Im not looking for him to play 50 snaps. I need to play him around 25 snaps next season. Plenty of older pass rushers stick around and offer production. Chris Long 2 yrs agon in NE, not very good, this year a contributor in Philly. Peppers looked done in GB, dominant last year in Carolina. Dwight Freeney has been a specialist for years. If I can get 5 sacks out of Ayers in a rotation, Im pleased. Same reason why I want McDonald. These guys certainly wont inhibit making major changes on the dline.

And gave qbs all day to throw. Honestly the entire D-Line is replaceable minus keeping McCoy and Spence (if healthy).

Ayers is not a stud and even on reduced snaps doesn’t mean anything. Freeny, peppers, and long were 5 times the player Ayers was and is. Just because they are productive now at the later stages doesn’t mean Ayers will be on reduced snap counts.

Maybe he wont close to be the same. Maybe he gets healthy. And as far as your 5 times the player, you must not be aware that over the last 3 seasons only Peppers has more sacks. Oh yeah, almost forgot Freeney has a half sack more. But you know Ayers is definitely done.

Didn't Mike smith mention a "multiple defense". Let's see it Mike ! . I agree let's not empty the bucket and try to add a bunch of guys who are out of jobs at the moment. We just need to add some good players. Trade for one?? Maybe coaching different techniques on the line. Get better at stunts or stop running them lmao. I know I was hating on gholston but he is probably our best run stoppers. Still if your an end. You gotta touch the qb.

Ayers doesn’t compare as a football player. The fact those three can contribute in a limited role does not mean Ayers can. Just poor comparisons. I’d let him walk. He showed zero leadership as well. Listening to the joe bucsfan podcast swaggy Baker was being confronted by Kwon on the sidelines of the jets game and Ayers stepped in to back him off. That was a guy that needed to be let go mid season( baker) because he didn’t care.
REDandPEWTER
I hope they hire Buckner. Listening to the kaufman and bucsfan podcast, they met Buckner and he has a great relationship with Jason Licht from the Arizona days.

What can a player do next season is my only concern. You want to believe Ayers can no longer play even in a rotation role because of age. Thats fine. However, I am recognizing injuries last season could be a reason for the decline. I mentioned the other guys not as a comparison of careers, but examples of players who were full time starters in their careers, but as they aged into their 30s were still able to contribute. I believe if Ayers injuries werent too bad from last season, he could transition into a similiar role maybe not for the next 5 years like a Freeney, but Im only concerned about next season. REDandPEWTER
What I’m basically saying is Ayers isn’t a guy I think can contribute and not even in a leadership role or rotation. He did nothing last year and he looked defeated in 2017 where his attitude was much more positive in 2016. What im basically saying is not all players can contribute at that position in there 30s. Ayers looked bad and he was always an average DL to begin with.
